I have a niece who works in the Army and served in Iraq. The concern for American citizens who live and work and travel overseas will increasingly be compromised if the radicals are strengthened. And if we do move, it will strengthen the argument of the radicals to recruit, their ability to recruit, and their increasing aggression and violence against our country.
I am presently retired, young enough to be called back, as is any commissioned officer, but I think the force is drawing down now.

Exactly. It is these asinine ROE (and the "leaders" that created them) that are the problem. Our troops should not be over there trying to "engage" these filthy animals, if they are not there with the express intent of killing as many as possible then they should not be there.

It’s new lingo with new smiley faces on it, but it is not hugely different from what George W. Bush had been doing in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Afghanistan has been largely about trying to create West-friendly coalitions in a mostly Islamic people so as to keep a lid on terrorism and violence. There might not be any “moderate Islam” but there are “moderate Muslims” (you can easily tell them because they complain bitterly when the Taliban takes over).
Of course he is threatening us. All muslims are threatening those who disagree with them about anything.

I just wish one, just one, of our leaders would come out and say, “where was the outrage when American military burned Holy Bibles in Afghanistan, a country where we have spent billions and blood of our soldiers to try to help, and now people are peeing their pants because a few korans might be burned”?
