A Florida pastor's plan to burn the Quran on the anniversary of 9/11 is a breathtakingly dumb idea. It's bad for the country. As Gen. David Petraeus warned, this illiterate's stunt could incite violence against U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
Pastor Terry Jones has argued that he enjoys a First Amendment right to burn the books. I'll buy that. Likewise an imam has the right to build a mosque where he will, but he ought not claim that putting an Islamic center near ground zero would help build bridges across religious lines.
Jones explained his commitment to the pyrotechnics to ABC News. "If we don't do it, when do we stop backing down?"
He even has a point when he argues that any violence that follows his stunt would be on the hands of Islamic extremists. Although a better man would fear the consequences of enraging violent extremists and douse the flame.
It may well be that I'm giving Jones too much credit, but I think he and others have been driven mad by a media-elite double standard that requires the Christian religious right to be sensitive, but not Muslims.

Isn’t this the same paper that supported banning the military from recruiting students on campus? Haven’t they been critical of the troops; displaying advertizements on General ‘Betray-us’.
Now, when someone with a spine says “No More”; they are the first to condemn the person for standing up. Where is the condemnation for the Ground Zero Mosque, or the condemnation of burning Bibles in Afghanistan, or the policy of ripping a bible to shreds when you enter Saudia Arabia through Customs.

Whoever wrote this hasn't done their background work. The man is not illiterate. I've heard him. He's pretty well-spoken, and his website is well-written.
So, cheap shot and wrong right up front.
Why attack the guy personally? Because they love Islam???
I Hope they adopt islamic shariah law, because they will have a look of utter surprise as hundreds of thousands of their heads are mounted on pikes.

is it in bad taste? maybe... definitely less than building a 13 story victory mosque on ground zero. at least the burning only happens in one day. the ground zero mosque would be permanent
Hamas-AlQueda-etc...routinely blowup innocent Muslims and mosques with out a peep; much less than a rebuke from the famed Muslim Street. If the ‘peaceful Muslims’ do not take up the fight against the violent brethren; then they forfeit the argument that most Muslims are peaceful and should not be lump together with terrorists.’
I may burn a few this weekend just for my own pleasure while having a few beers around the fire pit with friends.
