Kyler Robertson's father was stabbed to death Sunday afternoon during an argument, a tragedy that the 16-year-old boy has struggled to understand.

On Tuesday, still grieving, Kyler decided he would rather go to Byron Nelson High School and be around his friends than stay home.

When he arrived at the Trophy Club school, his eyes were bloodshot and watery. He was accused of being under the influence of marijuana, according to a Northwest school district document provided to the Star-Telegram. Kyler was suspended for three days and was told that beginning Friday, he would be placed in the district's alternative education program until Jan. 14, 2011.

...

"I asked, 'Do you have any evidence? What is your basis for this?' They said this is just our observation and he smelled like marijuana," she said.

After leaving the campus, Kyler underwent a urine drug screening at his doctor's office within two hours. "Kyler has been evaluated by me and shows no evidence of being under the influence of any illicit drug or alcohol," Keller physician Brandon Atkinson wrote in a statement to the school Tuesday. ....

The boy's mother had contacted the admin office and every teacher to let them know that his father had been killed. So they should have had a pretty good idea of why the kid might have bloodshot and watery eyes.

Public schools are a failure at everything except indoctrinating our children.

Seems to me the ones on drugs are the administrators. I hope the kid’s mom demands urine tests of all the school staff to make things fair!

Too many school “administrators” with not enough to do except to act busy/pretend like they’re accomplishing something/anything.

all the teenagers i know smell like reefer.

does not necessarily mean they smoke, but everyone they hang with usually do.

one downside to modern high quality grass is the reek that non smokers pick up like the smell of a skunk.

rum and scotch causes the same effect for another generation. i know this to be fact.

the school official that thought he smelled like MJ probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the smell of clothes out of a laundry hamper and the smell of mj. something smells weird so it must be reefer.

all the teens i know aint everyone, just the ones i know.

as for the rum reek, i do confess to forcing down a shot or two or three... but only under extreme social pressure.

That's a deadly combination.

They said this is just our observation and he smelled like marijuana," she said.

Apparently not enough common sense in that entire school district to give a break to a kid who just lost his father, no matter what they 'suspect'.

in my experience, it generally takes two shots of bacardi silver to reach the point where paying eight bucks a shot for the glenlivet seems reasonable.

i rarely end up drunk, but always broke.
