Copenhagen - Police in Denmark arrested a suspected possible suicide bomber Friday following a small explosion at a hotel in central Copenhagen, media reports said.
Danish daily Extra Bladet showed on its website a photo of the suspect, who had reportedly attempted to blow himself up. Police did not immediately confirm the report.
No one was injured in the explosion at the Jorgensen Hotel. Police handcuffed the man after he was seen running away from the hotel and into the nearby Orstedsparken park. The park was evacuated and the surrounding streets were cordoned off as explosive experts were called in.
There have been fears of a possible attack by radical Islamist in Denmark ever since the 2005 publication by the Danish media of controversial cartoons depicting the Islamic prophet Muhammed.
Friday's bomb scare took place a day before the anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks in the United States.

“Suspected bomber arrested”
FRIDAY, 10 SEPTEMBER 2010 20:15 KM NEWS
SNIPPET: “Police in Copenhagen have arrested a man in connection with what appears to be a botched bombing.
The man was apprehended shortly after a minor explosion at about 1:30pm in the bathroom of Hotel Jørgensen, located near Nørreport Station, the capitals busiest commuter railway hub.
Police arrested the man, reportedly carrying identification from two foreign countries, in nearby H.C. Ørsted Park with a bag attached to his waist.”
SNIPPET: “Security, however, was tightened at the ferry crossing between Helsingør, Denmark and Helsingborg, Sweden, some 30km north of Copenhagen. According to B.T. newspaper, police nationwide were asked to be aware of cars from France, the Netherlands or Belgium.
Forensics teams have been on the scene throughout the day, but a spokesman for the police said the hotel had yet to be searched for evidence due to concerns that the suspect may have planted additional bombs.”

Note to lurkers:
That is not a photo of the suspect.
Note: Post no. 11 is in reference to post no. 5.
Hold on to your hats. It may get bumpy tomorrow!
I breezed over the headline a few times, then I realized this was a “Where are the survivors buried?” moment....
Guess he didn’t get the memo that the Koran burning was off.
Thank you Blam.
And the beat goes on...
Thx for ping - sadly these people only know murder and mayhem.
According to Danish newspapers the man was arraigned today and will stay in jail for four weeks during the investigation, the first 9 days will be in solitary confinement.
Both newspapers describe him as dark haired, dark skinned and with lots of wounds in his face and a black eye he had the look of a boxer.
He lacks the lower part of his left leg.
Although none of the newpapers brings this up, the lack of a leg could indicate that he has been involved in other war or terrorist activites
Initially he spoke English to the police - or at least indicated that he had a good understanding of the language. Later he has refused to speak English and during the his appearance in the Court he had the proceedings he used a french-speaking interpreter.
Most of the proceedings were held behind closed doors. According to the police the name of the bomber is still not known. Initially it was said he could be Caucasian or North African, His looks and the fact that he speaks french indicates that he is from either Morocco or Algeria.
Interesting to note in Cindy's post (#8) that the police was looking for cars with French, Belgium or Dutch number plates. That also points towards Morocco or Algeria.
I guess we were wrong. Not an Amish this time either.
Ping to update.....
Thanks for this additional photos link csvset.
Bumping your post and thanks for the additional info, ScaniaBoy.
Security update [Denmark]
“Explosion possibly terror related”
SATURDAY, 11 SEPTEMBER 2010 11:42 KM NEWS
SNIPPET: “Security at possible terrorist targets stepped up
Police nationwide are on increased alert for possible terrorist attacks after yesterdays arrest of a man in conjunction with a minor explosion in central Copenhagen.
The move, which includes additional security at Copenhagen Airport as well as possible targets, comes after investigators initially downplayed terrorism as a possible motive.
Evidence now indicates that the explosion was a failed terrorist attack, and intelligence service PET could not rule out that man taken into custody as a suspect may have had accomplices.”
SNIPPET: “The police have also indicated that a pistol was found at the scene of the explosion.
The suspect has refused to talk to police, but has been identified as a foreign citizen. He remains in hospital after receiving light injuries when the bomb exploded in the bathroom of a hotel near Copenhagens Nørreport Station, the nations busiest railway hub.”
Thanks for the update.
You’re welcome csvset.

Danish police continue to remain mum about bombers identity, possible target
Belgian officials have opened an investigation into the identity of the man arrested in Copenhagen on Friday in connection with a minor explosion, reports public broadcaster DR.
The man, who has refused to give his identity, was reportedly carrying papers from two foreign countries.
Danish police have not stated the names of the countries, but according to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, the suspect was carrying a passport from that country with a false name.
According to a spokesperson for Belgian prosecutors, such an investigation is normal when a Belgian resident is involved in a serious crime abroad.
A judge in Copenhagen on Saturday ordered the man held on remand until 4 October. Speaking through a French translator, the suspect, described as in his 40s and missing the lower half of one of his legs, plead innocent on charges of planning to detonate a bomb and reckless endangerment of other peoples lives.
He was also charged with illegal possession of a loaded pistol.
According to the polices theory, the man assembled the bomb and intended to use it to kill or maim others.
No official announcement has been made of the suspects potential target. But Ekstra Bladet newspaper, citing sources close to the investigation, reported on Sunday that among the mans possessions was a map with a ring around the main office of Jyllands-Posten newspaper in Århus.
Jyllands-Posten has been the subject of numerous threats since September 2005, when it published cartoons of the prophet Mohammed. It recently completed a multi-million kroner security upgrade of its Århus office in order to ward off possible attackers.

Thanks for the ping ScaniaBoy.
Thanks for that update csvset.
A Look at More Than Cartoon
However, other information has been released including a photo of the man in question, and a full description of him: 169 cm long, 25 - 35 years old, medium/athletic build, scar to the right of his nose, broad nose pointing to the right. Looks like it has been broken several times. Missing lower right leg, prosthesis. (Oh, yes, this guy has been through some tough times....probably not a quire boy.)
Link in Danish here, includes video of his escape from the hotel.
Thanks for the update, video and photo ScaniaBoy.
Ok, I’m going to post some video links from the link you posted, ScaniaBoy.
Note: For researchers, analysts, leos, alphas and military; you may want to
take a look at this guy on the videos.
"Speaking through a French translator, the suspect, described as in his 40s and missing the lower half of one of his legs..."
I do hope he was sloppy and left behind some good intel.
I don’t know.
He understands some English, his translator for the court is a French language speaker, forged ID, one can only speculate...
Time will tell.
The three identities of our bomber.
My guess is that his real name contains a Muhammed or a Hussein, but that's of course just a hunch.
Thanks for the ping.
The names he gave the police, as indicated in post above, are given in this article, along with a surveillance photo. Note the date of the surveillance photo!
apologies for the duplicate info; was in a hurry and didn’t scan all the previous postings. Thanks for keeping up on this.
I think it is a mistake by the editor. It probably should say 8 September, one day after he arrived in Copenhagen.
