WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama accused Republicans on Friday of holding the middle class hostage and defended his efforts to stimulate the sluggish economy as he tries to reverse grim election prospects for his fellow Democrats in November.

With opinion polls showing more Americans questioning his economic leadership, Obama used a rare news conference at the White House to hammer home a campaign-style message painting Republicans as obstructionist and the party for the rich.

Obama has been on the defensive as recession-weary Americans have grown skeptical about the steps he has taken to bring down an unemployment rate persistently near 10 percent.

On The Morning Joe they (MSNBC political analysts) were predicting that Obama goes with Republicans on the extension of the tax cuts AFTER the election , at least extending them temporarily, because so many democrats are defecting and the Senate RINOs show no signs of giving in to him either. But he will put up a fight (or play act ) on them like now until the 2010 election because giving in (on the rich tax cuts) would completely demoralize liberal base democrat voters and hurt his turnout efforts if he gave in before the election.

This is pretty close to what I have been saying too. Obama will take care of Obama first.

The MSM will make up lies about Sarah Palin and report them as gospel, yet they won’t mention a word about Obama claiming the unemployment rate wouldn’t go above 8% if his Trillion dollar stimulus plan was passed.

That was almost 18 months ago and the unemployment rate has since reached double-digits, yet the MSM won’t utter a word about this massive failure of his.

Obama is everything his critics said he would be, yet the media continues to give him a license to lie.

I can only imagine the 24/7 stories about people losing their jobs, homes, health care, etc, by the MSM if a Republican were in the WH right now.

And imagine if Sarah Palin was the VP right now.

The MSM and the left (same thing) would be demanding she be impeached and imprisoned.
