Boehner: I'll Drop Tax Cut for Rich If I Have To [reality check at post 121]
CBSNEWS ^

(CBS) The leading Republican in the House, and a vocal proponent of allowing an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for all Americans, including the wealthiest 3% of earners, objected to charges by President Obama that Republicans are holding tax breaks for the bottom 97% of earners hostage unless the wealthiest also get an extension.

In a pre-taped interview to appear on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday, Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner said that, if approving a bill to extend breaks for middle class income Americans were "the only option," he would support it.

The Congressional Budget Office has estimated extending tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans would cost $700 billion over the next decade.

At a speech in Ohio earlier this week, Mr. Obama said, "With all the other budgetary pressures we have - with all the Republicans' talk about wanting to shrink the deficit - they would have us borrow $700 billion over the next 10 years to give a tax cut of about $100,000 each to folks who are already millionaires."

HOW MANY DECADES DO WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH REPUBLICANS BEING ROLLED BY THE MSM/DNC?

The best we have is Robert Murdock and Fox, but even they go over to the dark side once in a while. Conservatives need a sugar daddy to set up a "Conservative News Network" that will HONESTLY report news, not leaving item out and remove all bias in words, facts, etc. JUST THE NEWS - opinions belong on talk radio or talk TV.

Boehner is going to be the reason the Republican Party once again snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.

What he should have said was he'd double-down on the Bush Tax Cuts, extending them through 2012 and refuse to fund ObamaCare.

By refusing to fund ObamaCare, the taxpayers of this country are spared hundreds of billions of dollars in spending - that we do not have - and growth of revenues as a result of the tax cut extension for all Americans would go a long way to closing the Federal Deficit.

We all know tax cuts are self-funding in that they bring in more revenue than they "cost" (Government speak right there..)

lol. I realized after posting the dem's description for Boehner..."a 60-year-old, perpetually tanned, sharply tailored, chain-smoking golfer".....it sounds more like obama.

"GOP--LET THE CUTS EXPIRE AND LET PEOPLE GET JANUARY PAYCHECKS. Then issue a retroactive extension. It will teach people a lot--particularly when Obama tries to stop it."

I think that I like this BUT announce in advance that you are going to do it so that Dims cannot claim some sort of victory.

Here is our delima FreeReign.

You see there is no way to know what Republicans believe when they go on these shows, and succumb to Dem talking points. They are always on defense.

Do they believe the Dems premise? Are they simply trying to get out of the interview unscathed? Who are they trying to appeal to?

Regardless, they leave the interview WITHOUT teaching the public a darn thing about economics, the perils of a nanny state, conservatism.

So, the interview has been unproductive and counter productive.

All this does reduce the tax base yet again.

The base has been getting smaller and smaller for decades.

In doing so the majority who pay little in income taxes have no stake in tax increases anymore and so they simply don’t care. They just want their government services someone else pays for. Also as the base gets smaller tax revenue becomes more and more dependent on the well being of the group you are taxing. Any wonder why tax revenue is declining faster than the general economy...

This is NOT a good sign. If Repubs win the House and take more seats in the Senate, they cannot then look at each other and say, “now what do we do?” I think Obama is not worried about a R-controlled House or even Senate. He has the press and the unions in his corner.

This is what makes me angry about Free Republic and the FRaliban. Every election cycle the newsmedia does this. The newsmedia attempts to divide the GOP by taking things out of context and then provocateurs here on FR attempt to say that GOP is no different that rats in order to suppress the Nov vote.

The real kicker is the people here say that the liberal newsmedia are bias and yet it doesn't stop people from believing this taken out of context.

If the Republicans DO by some fantastic stroke of the miraculous capture the House in November, THIS is reason #1 to DISQUALIFY him from consideration for Speaker of the House.

The only one who “fell for it” is Boehner...by going on CBS.

That's a good point.
When will Republicans ever learn to stay away from the Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms?

It's the SPENDING not the REVENUE......but of course they know POWER is lost if they stop taking from those that have in order to give to those that don't.

Allow me...
It's the SPENDING not the REVENUE tax dollars seized by force from productive citizens......but of course they know POWER is lost if they stop taking from those that have in order to give to buy the votes of those that don't.

LEt’s correct what is really happening ...

The Congressional Budget Office has estimated extending tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans would KEEP OVER $700 billion IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR, GROWING PRIVATE SECTOR INVESTMENT, SAVINGS, JOBS AND SPENDING over the next decade.

DO WE NEED MORE PRIVATE JOBS OR NOT?

Huh,

Can you read? He and his aide both said it. IT’S in the WSJ!

“A Boehner aide said the congressman would accept a compromise that doesn’t extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans if talks remain stalled over the next three weeks; Congress is scheduled to breaks at that time for the November midterm elections. “

“I want to do something for all Americans who pay taxes,” Mr. Boehner said, adding that extending rates for all income brackets would help the economy grow and create jobs. “If the only option I have is to vote for some of those tax reductions, I’ll vote for it.

+1 - Boehner's performance on CBS was awful - That he once again allows the GOP to be walked into a false premise type argument is foolishness - He has helped the MSM here to cause problems for the GOP and to help them spin a premise in favor for Obama (as if Obama is cutting taxes for the middle class...and GWB was only cutting taxes for the Rich).

Boehner's performance sucked! It sucked at a time when we can't afford such miserable performances. He needs to be out in force starting AM tomorrow. Hitting all the radio shows and putting the tax debate back under the correct premise....

I wonder if Boehner emails the car dealer ahead of time when he’s going shopping and declares “I have a budget of $35,000, but I’m going to try to negotiate with you for much less than that.”
