Boehner: I'll Drop Tax Cut for Rich If I Have To [reality check at post 121]
CBSNEWS ^

(CBS) The leading Republican in the House, and a vocal proponent of allowing an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for all Americans, including the wealthiest 3% of earners, objected to charges by President Obama that Republicans are holding tax breaks for the bottom 97% of earners hostage unless the wealthiest also get an extension.

In a pre-taped interview to appear on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday, Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner said that, if approving a bill to extend breaks for middle class income Americans were "the only option," he would support it.

The Congressional Budget Office has estimated extending tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans would cost $700 billion over the next decade.

At a speech in Ohio earlier this week, Mr. Obama said, "With all the other budgetary pressures we have - with all the Republicans' talk about wanting to shrink the deficit - they would have us borrow $700 billion over the next 10 years to give a tax cut of about $100,000 each to folks who are already millionaires."

Accepting the Democrat’s meme that the tax cuts are “for the rich” is already admitting failure.

Instead, if he wants to do things the *smart* way, he should embrace the slogan of president Calvin Coolidge.

“The business of America is business.”

This is actually less important for saying what America should *not* be, than for what it is.

America should *not* be a welfare state.

America should *not* be a gambling casino for billionaire market players that create imaginary, bubble profits out of speculative wagering, and predatory attacks on business.

America should *not* be paying for government to do what it is *not* supposed to do.

Instead, America’s business should follow the rules of every other business:

1) Use credit sparingly, and repay creditors promptly.
2) Give the customers, the citizens, what *they* want and what you are *allowed* to give them, *not* what you want to give, because you think it is “best” for them.
3) Don’t let employees abuse customers, or citizens.
4) Keep non customers, and non citizens, from abusing the customers, or citizens.
5) Once you have done your job, leave the customers, or citizens, alone. And put a sock in it.

Your post says it all!

Why is no one talking about able welfare recipients getting their own jobs? This would solve EVERYTHING.

Forget burdening the tax payers. They're already doing their "fair share." It's time to get the feeding freeloaders into the unemployment offices! It's time they contributed SOMETHING other than more dependent kids!

If Washington needs more money, get the freeloaders to earn it for a change.

If the repubs cave on this we’ll be worse off in January if they take charge

Sounds like an emotional response. Even Boehner would be better than Harry Reid.

Obama has thus far taxed the poor more than anyone. They have no voice and lap it up.

Put the Dems on the spot.

Add a condition: Tripling the Child Tax Credit.

Watch them try and figure out how to oppose it.

"If the repubs cave on this we’ll be worse off in January if they take charge. All that will happen is they’ll cave for the next two years on everything else then the muslim will be re-elected and the dems will take back congress."

If the repubs cave?

Doesn't that imply that there is some minuscule possibility that they won't?

This loser is not fit to be Speaker of the House, much less the leader of the House GOP caucus.

This type of statement is a poison pill for the Democrats. Democrats will have to SPECIFICALLY vote to RAISE the taxes of “The Rich”. Don’t think they have the votes.

The rate by definition pay more in taxes (and sales taxes). Why should their rate be higher? There should be the same rate for everyone. You earn more, you pay more but at the same rate.

I'm afraid we're going to be disappointed, though. Millions of freeloaders will still be feeding off the tax slaves anyway. The welfare slugs will just keep breading and feeding. No one in Washington is talking about getting rid of this type of wasteful spending. They're all debating what to do about the tax payers! Steal more, or continue to steal half of everything we earn.
Wow. They're really swell people, aren't they?
Meanwhile, the welfare slugs will continue to live a relaxed, confortable, worry free life and just keep demanding more.

Most the top 3% probably don’t have much cash in their pockets, banks. It’s probably reinvested in their businesses. Where do they get the money to pay all these “rich must pay” taxes? Well, they have to cut somewhere...cut staff...sell off what they can. Taxes are big way to erode the backbone of our economy.

More good bye to jobs...more foreclosures....more downturn in the economy.
But then again, that sure seems to be the goal of this current administration.

To stimulate the economy:
Cut taxes and quit spending, repeal Heathcare, repeal financial reform, repeal stimulus. Common sense stuff

It's funny how 3% of people can whine like they're the majority. I guess money can buy alot of surrogate whiners.

.....they would have us borrow $700 billion.....

No you friggin' dolts, just SPEND 800 Billion LESS and you will have a 100 Billion dollar surplus and everyone would be able to KEEP THEIR OWN MONEY!!!!

It's the SPENDING not the REVENUE......but of course they know POWER is lost if they stop taking from those that have in order to give to those that don't.
