Millennials vs. boomers: You twerps owe us everything
Times Herald Record Middletown, NY ^ | 9/12/10 | Steve Israel

Let's get one thing straight, all of you millennials out there.

If it weren't for us baby boomers, most of you wouldn't be here. Literally.

We are your parents. You sprung from our wombs, from our love.

We don't just deserve your respect; we deserve your eternal gratitude — for the food you ate, for the clothes you wore, for the roofs over your heads. By the way, we're still giving food, clothes and roofs to the more than 10 million of you who still live in our homes.

And what have you millennials — the 50 million Americans born between 1980 and 1995 who are becoming adults at the start of this new millennium — given us?

Nada — except the smug expectation that we should give you more.

Let's start with culture — like the music you listen to, on the gizmos we boomers invented.

Not only are Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, U2 and the late Michael Jackson bona fide, card carrying boomers born between 1946 and 1964. The music we boomers grew up on — the Beatles, the Stones, Dylan, Hendrix, Motown and James Brown — is the music you listen to now, because you hardly have any of your own.

Unless, of course, you count Lady Gaga.

We gave you technology like cell phones.

And did you ever hear of this little invention called the Internet?

Yup. Boomers (not including Al Gore) gave you that, too

Here's the other side of this age-old argument. I would add that the roots of the internet, i-Pods, MP3's Wii's etc can be traced back to guys like Babbage, Burroughs, Edison, etc. When you think about it, the Morse code was THE original binary code.

And now the boomers want payment in the form of the income of the millennials and the children of the millennials, for their comfortable retirement, healthcare and medications.

I’m tired of this crap. The “Greatest Generation” screwed us all.

...And we’re going to pick your nursing homes.

Need I say more?

Boomers, to a large extent, did not raise their kids.

If they had kids at all, they largely left them with a key to get in the door after school. If one of the kids was older, then that one was in charge.

If you give birth to kids but then give them no time aside from feeding them and summer vacations, it comes as no surprise that they don’t really think of you when they are grown

Like in every other culture throughout time, the elderly are in the care of those who know love them. If nobody but other old people know or love you, you wind up in a dingy nursing home in your last years, and nobody cares. It is generally too late at that point, to do anything other than regret your course.

"Boomers destroyed this country."

Sure they did. Too bad your Dad didn't relieve himself on a flat rock.

Then we'd have one less sniveling crybaby here on FreeRepublic.

Now I understand why my mother hated the cries of a "generation gap" when I was a kid growing up in the 60's. Yes, I'm on the tail end of the "boomer" generation but my now 30-ish daughter grew up learning from ME. She loved (and still loves) most of my music, movies and TV shows. Her politics are a lot more tolerant than mine but still mostly conservative. She loves Rush AND she loves Lady Gaga. She relates very well to my generation and to the generation behind hers as well as her own.

We can't marginalize someone just because of their age. THAT is unforgivable.

Lighten up and let's start talking about bringing generations together instead of drawing lines in the sand.

America needs all the support She can get, because America is staring at her demise.

Oh, really? I’m thinking of the “greatest generation” and THEIR parents who kept voting FDR in as Emperor. That’s what started our decline.

Damn “boomers” owe the “millenials” big for destroying their Constitutional freedoms and the American economy. If only the millenials were educated enough to know it. Of course, the boomers educated the millenials so that’s their fault to. Luckily a lot of the millenials are battle hardened so maybe they’ll be tough enough to make changes after the hippies and self-centered narcissists of the boomer generation die off.

Baby Boomers: The do as I say not as I do generation.

The USA is falling apart because a large percentage (though not all) of the boomer generation chose to follow the liberal-left.

Then you have our own kids, 18-25, who played by the rules and can’t make any more money working than entitlement people lazing around.

They see this. They’ll understand the net effects of socialism better than any generation we have ever produced.

And they’ll do something about it, eventually.

“(though not all)”

50.000 died in Nam.......

Not all Boomers, but all of them in service to their country.

Wrong. We are the largest, highest, longest paying taxpayers in the nation. We’ve paid into SS since we virtually first started to work. We paid for our Grandparents, we paid for our Parents and we paid enough to PAY FOR OURSELVES and then some.

Save your ire for the politicians WHO STOLE OUR MONEY!

>>We are the largest, highest, longest paying taxpayers in the nation<<

And who caused that?
The greatest generation. What have we done to over come the crap they passed us? Nothing.

My ire is with the boomers who bitch while they vote to happily extend the crap handed to us by our parents. Then hold tight to the goodies while taking from the next generation and their children. All the while moaning how tough we have it. WE continue what our parents started.

I was born in 1961 and I’m sickened by my generation.
