Well, I don’t have a stereo system, dishwasher, garbage disposal, or freezer. And my VCR doesn’t work.
Even though it’s not on the chart, I don’t have a big screen TV.
Does that make me poor?

Yes. I was just thinking about how to post my thoughts on the matter when I came across your post. I believe you to be correct on this.

Every person in poverty is a future democratic voter insuring his handout never ends. You think Obama is worried about this new? This is great news for him.

From the article: "In 2009, the poverty level stood at $21,954 for a family of four,..."Does that "income" include the earned income credit? Food Stamps? School lunches? Medicaid? Medicare? I'll bet that when you add up all the welfare "income", that 21,954 is more like $30,000 or so.

You make very good points.
As a study in US poverty, go to a “poor” part of town and walk into a liquor store at 10 AM (or whatever time it opens). You see 300 pound obese “poor” people buying their booze using money from the government. They then go home and plop in front of the TV for the day.
Maybe all congress types should be forced to watch this.

However, all under Obama’s watch.
The truth is, though, that many of these newly impoverished were working Americans not too long ago. In other words, even though their incomes might not have been huge, they nevertheless insisted on working on their own and providing for their own.
These newly impoverished are not the people who grew up on welfare. These are the people who did not believe in that even if it would have been easier.
We want them to find jobs. We don’t want them on government assistance. We want them able to stand on their own two feet, struggling, working, producing, providing.
They are our kind of people, not his kind of people.

I find interseting the difference between poverty on today’s terms as opposed to being poor in the 1930’s.
You might be poor today, but you have food from food stamps, lights,AC, and heat from utility assistance, and emergency rooms for medical bills that you are not expected to pay. Probably didn’t cancel the sat TV either.

One stat I saw was that since Obama was elected, more guns have been sold into the private sector in the US than exist in all armed services IN THE WORLD COMBINED. Any chance you could remember where you saw that?

Ive traveled a bit in my relatively short life and seen what I deem true poverty, people living in cardboard and tin shacks, shanty towns, people trying to decide whether to go without food in order to ensure their children will have barely enough to eat, or even considering killing and eating the family pet because they have no money to buy groceries. And then there's the really and truly poverty of twelve-year-old girls prostituting themselves to feed their families. Nobody, I mean NOBODY, in America is that poor.

The issue is that more Americans are much worse off AND it’s on Obama’s watch. That’s the message of this article.
Odds are that they are the unemployed of about 1.7 years ago who have proudly worked in the past, and we don’t want them to get into the habit of accepting government help.
We’ve got to elect conservatives to turn this around. (AND...throw the bastard libs and rinos out.)
