Two freshman at Edward Bok Technical High School in Philadelphia were hospitalized after a beating by 10 other boys, Friday. The victims were new 14 and 15 year immigrants from China.
Bok High School is 72 percent black and the perpetrators were black kids bringing to mind incidents that happened last December at South Philadelphia High School. One of the perps has been arrested and is facing assault charges.
Philadelphia School District officials described the incident as part of traditional freshman hazing and said racism was not involved.
The Asian community is skeptical.

Oh yeah, does traditional freshman hazing usually result in hospitalization for those “hazed”?

Last Dec. 3, after years of attacks on Asian immigrant students, something finally snapped.
Fueled by rumors, a group of students roamed the halls searching for Asian victims until one was attacked in a classroom. Later, about 70 students stormed the cafeteria, where several Asians were beaten. About 35 students pushed past a police officer onto the so-called “Asian floor,” but were turned back. After school, Asians being escorted home were attacked anyway by a mob of youths.
Almost all the attackers were black - but few observers believe the violence was due to racial hatred. Instead, they cite isolation of different groups within the school, certain students’ warped “gangster” values, and for some, simmering resentments over perceived benefits for Asian students.
About 30 Asians were injured that day; seven went to hospitals. Past attacks had been reported to administrators and police, but students say nothing seemed to change.
I wonder if whether or not this is a reaction. I remember a FReeper mentioning that Traids are exterminating blacks from whole blocks and Hispanics have created areas where blacks will get shot on sight. This is getting worse and worse and I wonder how the media will be able to cover such a thing without a massive backlash from either side.
I simply cannot understand why they are doing this in the first place. There’s no point ot blacks attacking everyone around them.
I just cannot imagine what the Chinese must be thinking. Their citizenry come over to learn, get assaulted, and now get ignroed and shoved aside. And go figure, the Asian students are the correct ones. I wonder what they think of whites who kowtow to these bullies. I wonder if whetehr or not this will result in a backlash. Something has to give. I know that FReepers here dislike the Chinese and China at times, but this is horrible and inexcusable.
Don’t ask me to explain it. Blacks kill far more of each other than they do of other ethnies, as indeed all ethnic groups do.
I am amused, however, by black spokesmen speaking of the “horrible toll of crime” on the black community, as if this were some outside force that attacked them, rather than their own predators doing their thing.
I find it a good deal less amusing when, as often happens, the same “community leaders” jump to the defense of the same predators when they are caught or killed.
I was in high school in Detroit 1955-1959. The only hazing of freshmen that went on was in the locker room after football practice. That hazing usually took place in the form of being snapped on the butt by an upperclassman with a towel. There was never any hazing outside the locker room. If we’d tried it in the hallway, Sister Mary Doorgunner would have been on us like holy on the Pope.

Asians are diplomatic and typically don’t get involved with politics or issues. I have no doubt that this was race based. Shhhh .... Asians don’t think much of blacks in general ... blacks and Asians have NOTHING in common. I suspect their doing well and excelling was too much for the blacks to handle so they beat the crap out of them.
