I suspect alma fell head over heels in love with RF just as I did with his far superior intellect. Nothing is sexier than a brain; certainly not an obnoxious fool that believes himself to be manly simply due to owning a bike.

But when I go to talk to him about the speeding alone, I'm the one being an "asshole."

Well, if you have already talked to him about the problem, and he refuses to cooperate, maybe it is time to "educate" him.

Sure, you'll have to suck up the assault charge. First offense is usually just a fine anyway, and the neighborhood will probably throw a cookout in your honor.

Respect. Always give it... Always DEMAND it.

Then what is your problem with me and my motorcycle? I personally have a real big problem with all of these sub-compact vehicles that the auto industry and our government insists that we manufacture. They don’t look safe, they have no acceleration, have trouble keeping up with traffic, and just downright offend my sensibilities as an American because they are so ugly.

Do you hear me ranting about them? Do you see me trying to push my agenda on the entire nation just because I wouldn’t be caught dead in one of those ridiculous machines. Not only would I not drive one, I wouldn’t even let my neighbors drive one either.

Since sarcasm tags are no longer in vogue on this site, I will forego posting of such.

All tags off: If you or your car, or your dog, or your kids, or your wife (I think you get the idea here)if they do something illegal, like riding a bike with strait pipes or a car without a muffler, or a party at 3AM, and it is personally affecting my family or my property, I am going to demand that you cease and desist and I may want damages. If I commit the same offenses against you and yours, lock me the hell up.

Damn man, I’m trying to get along with you, not intimidate you, and I never meant to suggest that you should be in the least. I guess I didn’t make my point clearly enough; if I’m doing something illegal and I’m doing it in your space, call me on it and make me pay the price of my transgressions.

There are noise laws all over the books, just like immigration laws, the fact that the laws are seldom, if ever, enforced does not make the case for passing new laws which usually carry unintended consequences.

Look at all the Freedom loving “Don’t tread on me”, smaller government, less intrusive restrictions to liberty, Constitutionalists defend the larger government, more intrusive, restriction on someone else’s freedoms and liberty when it suits them! Amazing.

With freedom comes responsibility - that is conservative. Your current view is that of a libertine. I'm free to do as I will, screw the rest of you. The libertines abuse the freedom, then the busy-bodies want to take that freedom away from everyone. You want loud pipes, fine, idle in stopped traffic, idle down the neighborhood streets. Open it up on the highway.

There's a biker who lives in a neighborhood near mine (aside from the three I already mentioned in my neighborhood). I know he has loud pipes, but he's good about it in residential areas, idles down the neighborhood roads, accelerates reasonably, and keeps the noise down where folks are sleeping - I hear him because he's louder than most traffic, but he's still being a good neighbor.

I'll take him any day over a clapped out 4-banger or a jack-ass with a "look-at-me-I'm-important" attitude.

Well what about us men who are not Harly rider’s? I am a Viet Nam era vet Air Cav, and every street bike I ever owned could pass an entire harly gang like they were standing still when they were going flat out. Didn’t need to make all that much noise to do it either.

If that's your attitude, then great, come to my neighborhood. The problem is, the jack-asses around here won't change when called on it, and they don't care if the cops come. The cops can't or won't do anything about it and if I attempt do something about it other than talk, then I'm the one they cart off to jail.

Inform them of your presence with this horn and they'll probably ruin their shorts as they drive off the road..

I've seriously considered getting some kind of air horn for my sporty. One of my friends has one, and OMG is it loud! Even when you're standing next to him and know he's gonna blow it, you still jump.

On topic: My bike came from the dealers with Vance and Hines. It has a good sound, but frankly, I'd be just as happy with a little less volume. I have seen people take note when in traffic from the sound when it was obvious they'd not seen me, so I'm not complaining. When I upgrade, I'll probably get something a bit quieter so I can more easily listen to tunes while riding the countryside.

There is nothing sweeter on this earth than the sound of 100 bikes rolling by in a tribute ride. I'm nearly deaf but I enjoy feeling the vibration rattle my rib cage. You real guys know what I'm talking about.

I'm a PGR rider. The only thing better than hearing it rolling by, is being right in the middle of it, and seeing bikes as far as the eye can see, riding for our fallen heros.

One ride in particular comes to mind. We had about 500 bikes riding escort of 6 Medal of Honor recipients from DFW airport to Gainesville, Tx. As we were heading down I35, I noticed a solitary man standing beside his truck on the side of the road, at ramrod attention, holding a salute as the entire line of bikes passed. The image will remain with me forever. Almost everyone I talked to on that ride made note of him. It was one of those "wow" moments.

Would you please find for me where in my statement I said that it didn’t include personal responsibility? If you can’t find it I would suggest you not project an opinion not stated.

If the bike “exceed decibel limits”, then the cop should write the guy a damn ticket. To think the government needs yet another law when there are EXHISTING LAWS ON THE DAMN BOOKS, is asinine!

And I bet you are also complaining about the cost of government too!

How much do you think it costs to have individual officers chase these idiots down vs covering it in one law. Great idea, lets divert officer attention from catching murderer and thugs, have police departments purchase decibel testing equipment, and then have officers wait for a way-too-loud motorcycle.

Who the heck puts such a loud pipe on a motorcycle without the slightest concern for anyone else? Incredible how twisted some people will take an issue.

You still complaining? Come on, have a sense of humor. I didn’t take your post as a direct death threat.

I always pull out in front of motorcycles with loud pipes.

If you really do that...you're a real head case. Loud pipes make you want to possibly hurt or kill people????

Maybe I missed the sarcasm here...Was it?

On my 30 mile commute to work, I see at least 3 police cars waiting around for someone to ticket. They are not being “diverted” from anything. They make money writing tickets.
Let me tell you why my bike is loud, because apparently, only people who ride tend to understand.
There are 2 main concepts at work in traffic:
#1. Herd mentality.
#2. What I call the mother duck syndrome.
#1 is obvious when you see it - everyone just follows along in tight knit packs or herds. There is no room to maneuver and no room means little time to execute an evasion reaction. This is not a problem in a car because they can be seen more and can just bump into each other if need be. It is a problem for a bike because they are smaller and not as visible in other vehicles blind spot.
#2 is where people tend to follow another vehicle that is going at or around the same speed they are. Look around you while you drive and see people staring off into a daze thinking of one thing or another - not quite driving. Or they are texting or blabbing on a cell phone with a small percentage of attention on actual driving. Or maybe you will see the myopic geezer who can barely see over the steering wheel. They can get away with this by using the mother duck principle i.e. they just follow the person in front of them and copy them.
Having my loud bike protects me in both cases. In scenario #1, They can usually hear me even if they can’t see me.
In scenario #2, They will not hover around me because they don’t want to listen to my bike and they will move away.
I stay off the throttle when in neighborhoods and such exactly out of “concern” for others.

“If you really do that...you’re a real head case.”

well, no to the first part.....and maybe to the second.

You can’t really hear loud pipes in a car (until they pass directly by)....It was a commentary contradicting that “loud pipes save lives”.

Well...I didn't think so. But I needed to ask.

I disagree with you can't hear "loud pipes" coming towards you...while in a car.

I understand the thinking about having "louder" pipes....I used to ride a MC..and the more you can make other vehicle's aware of you..the better off you will probably be.

That said, I'm not an advocate of illegal pipes.

Fair enough.........

well, no to the first part.....and maybe to the second.

LOL. I think you just like to yank somebody's chain every now and then.

Me too, sometimes.

Unfortunately, there ARE people out there with that exact mindset. I didn't know you were being sarcastic at first, and my initial response was that "He hasn't pulled that trick on the right guy... yet." I try to use a variation of something my Dad (lost him on the 9th of this month. RIP. Love You, Dad!) used to say- "think twice, post once". (Remember being told "measure twice, cut once"?) Anyway, I'm glad I waited until you clarified your statement. I'm not sure that I necessarily agree with where you are coming from, but I understand it. That's why they make chocolate AND vanilla.

You're also an arrogant SOB... the kinda guy I like to hang out with.

Here's to ya. Cheers!
