Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo is set to receive a big endorsement at City Hall today, as a new poll out shows him facing stiff competition in November.
The latest Quinnipiac University survey released today finds likely voters are almost ready to start calling Carl Paladino governor. A few days ago, many New Yorkers didn't even know him.
But now the Quinnipiac poll finds the Republican nominee is within six points of Cuomo.
The Democrat leads the Republican 49-43 percent, with seven undecided. The margin of error is 3.6 percentage points.
According to the poll, voters want change in Albany and believe Paladino can bring it. Moreover, Cuomo is simply not winning the war of putting Republicans and independents in his corner.
Cuomo has Democrats locked up, 87-8. But with Republicans, Paladino leads 83-13 percent. Independents also favor Paladino, 49-43.
The poll does not include Rick Lazio, who is on the Conservative Party line and could take away votes from Paladino if he ends up running. But it also doesn't include left-leaning candidates who may do the same with Cuomo.
At this hour, there has been no official statement from Cuomos campaign.
The Cuomo campaign is also not confirming reports that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is due to endorse Cuomo this morning at City Hall in Manhattan.
Bloomberg had said he would stay out of the gubernatorial race. But that was when Lazio was vying for the Republican nod.
This announcement will sap Paladino's ability to raise money in Manhattan circles. But it also may burnish Paladino's credentials as a true upstart outsider.

This is great! The same would be happening in DE if the idiots like Tokyo Rove and Co. were not attacking our own candidate. Paladino..unelectable...I think Not!
Battle on, Paladino.
These stories should make Bloomy all the more popular as he throws his endorsement over to Cuomo.
Let’s hope Ms. O’Donnell shocks the political world, too. She did a good job last night on Hannity.

RE: She did a good job last night on Hannity.
The enxt thing she should do is do a good job in UNFRIENDLY territory.
NOPE. She should stay in Delaware. The MSM will only do her harm. She should avoid them like the plague they are.
She should stay in DE and meet the voters, hundreds even thousands a day. It's a small state, meet the voters and ask em for their votes and do local media, even the hostile ones.
Andy No-Stones is toast. He is damned if he debates the crazy conservative, and damned if he doesn't.
But, of course, as we all know from the MSM Newsers and Libtard pundits, the Northeast is a complete write-off and would never, ever elect a true conservative (other than Chris Christie) ... so I guess there is still hope for the Rats.
If you are able to source this I would appreciate it. I, and others, have said that it was a symbol of victory.
I love how this Paladino is waging a “slash and burn” campaign. really seems to be working for him. now hope he makes it at least competitive enough to possibly bring DiGourdio (sp?) to a win against Gillibrand. Though i must say in DE i think that O’Donnell seems to be her own worst enemy there.
“The enxt thing she should do is do a good job in UNFRIENDLY territory.”
That would be all risk, no reward. Even if she were to do a great job, the leftist media would declare, as if by fiat, that she was an embarrassment.
What she is doing is perfect: keep it local, make only friendly appearances on the national stage, and keep the campaign focused on the issues, where she holds a decisive advantage.
Paladino, Christie and Palin are showing the GOP the way to do battle with the Democrats. You come out with both barrels blazing with no apologies and you tell it like it is-no backing down. Democrats have never had to face this kind of Republican opponent. Usually Democrats get milquetoast like McCain and Grahamnesty. Democrats don’t know how to respond and when they do respond, they sound like whiny kids.
If Paladino beats the Cuomo Cartel, get out the popcorn because you are going to see the next civil war and it’s going to be in the Democrat party.
I'm loving it too. Paladino is sinking 10 million of his own money into this election, thus has a large incentive to make this all work. Paladino is an extreme scrapper and wants to see a return on his investment
Paladino made his money via the private sector while Cuomo is a creature of the public sector and an effin lawyer which is the mark of the beast as far as I'm concerned
Here is Cuomo's work history from his own website. I see no employment in the dreaded private sector and if he has any they sure ain't bragging about it
This is not a national election. She owes nothing to anyone and doesn’t need to prove anything.
I donated and my guess is that most of the money is from the other 56 ?? states.
I'll axe her website for a breakdown.
Awesome. Yes please axe about that. LOL!
