Today, six months since Congress passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, President Obama will be celebrating the signature achievement of his administration.
It's apt to be a lonely celebration: Few Democratic candidates are willing to talk about the health-care bill -- except the ones running ads to remind the electorate that they voted against it.
Still, the president will speak today before a group of state insurance regulators, while a coalition of labor unions and liberal activist groups organize rallies around the country. They'll undoubtedly focus on some of the new law's more popular provisions, many of which start today -- while ignoring the mandates, taxes and rationing that will come later. Indeed, the provisions they'll tout come with asterisks that they won't mention.
For example, starting today parents will be able to keep their children on the parents' insurance plan through age 25. But that doesn't come for free. The Department of Health and Human Services estimates that doing so will cost an estimated $3,380 a year per child. And since employers are balking at picking up the added cost, the parents themselves will have to foot the bill.
Similarly, as of today, insurers can no longer impose lifetime or annual limits on benefits or refuse coverage to children with preexisting conditions. One can argue that these new rules are the best way to deal with thorny issues -- but no one can claim that insurers will do these things out of the goodness of their hearts.
There's no such thing as a free lunch. If you're going to require insurers to cover more expensive customers and provide more benefits, it's going to cost more -- and those costs are going to be passed on to customers in the form of higher premiums.

Pain is our only hope.
And I saw a new add on the Telly with Andy Griffith, saying that the new Medicare will now provide “FREE” and unlimited checkups and Clinic visits for the elderly from now on! It also sounded like drugs will be “FREE” for the elderly from now on.......That is, if the Democrats get elected and will stop those mean Republicans from taking away their “FREE” and unlimited Health Care!
Mittens is so done. By the time the GOP primaries come around, being a flip flopping, life long liberal Republican, best noted for bailouts and his own Obamacare, he’ll be lucky to win Utah.
My personal suspicion is that all of a sudden the media has stopped cheerleading everything Obama does is that he's raising taxes on THEIR incomes.
Funny, I was just trying to explain to folks yesterday who are concerned that things aren’t going well, that we haven’t even begun to feel the pain of this administrations policy’s.
And as soon as insurance companies realize they can’t make a profit, they’ll go out of business....the goal of all this. Then the govt. will have to ‘pick up the pieces’ and take care of us. Universal cookstoves, UN mandated. Individual freedom will be a thing of the past. No matter, Hill and Bill, Michelle and Zero, Jesse Jackson, Maxine Waters, Barney Frank, and Nancy Pelosi, not to mention Mugabe...will tell us what to do. Every aspect of our lives will be under their control and the redistribution of America’s wealth and ingenuity to the third world will proceed over the objections of the ‘Homer Simpson’ American taxpayers who are too stupid to know what’s going on.

Rep. Tim Walz, D-Minn., ...They just didnt understand how we could save money on this by adding more people to the system...
Actually, it will happen sooner. It will happen as soon as they realize they're better off doing something else with the money they control.
We must remember that ZERO did not do this alone.
He was backed by the Democrat Congress and two RINO traitors from Maine.
We cannot get to Obama this year, he has two more to go, but we can get to some of those in Congress who shoved this mess down out throats,.
VOTE , Remove this scum from the halls of Congress.
[Then the govt. will have to pick up the pieces and take care of us. ]
While that was the plan, that isn’t going to happen because there isn’t enough money left in the world to pay for it. Hence what we need to prepare for is both a collapse of private insurance AND a collapse in government medical insurance. Look out, here we come Cuba.
The democrat party is corrupt and incompetent beyond redemption. My cat can do things better. At least she knows not to foul her own nest with ill-deeds.
Willfully inept and wholeheartedly complicit. When the average Joe finally does realize what Obamalamadingdong-care is going to mean to them and their bottom line, and the outrage ensues, the laimstream media, in a desperate attempt to save themselves, will abandon Obama. As the old saying goes "when it gets down to me or you, you gotta go".....
