"Sesame Street" started previewing its 41st season on the Web this week, releasing teaser clips featuring stars like Jude Law, Will.i.am, Colin Farrell, and Run-DMC's Reverend Run. One of the shorts, however, got a lot more attention than the rest: a two-and-a-half minute video of pop star Katy Perry singing a reworked version of her 2008 hit "Hot N Cold" with Elmo. The issue: the perception that Perry's outfit wasn't appropriate for a show geared toward children ages one to six.

He certainly does. I just about lost my lunch when we got the Elmo ‘Family’ vid out of the library. Of course....it had ‘two daddies’. *rolls eyes*

Certainly does, but what was wrong with the KP video? I loved it and would watch it with my [teenage] boys.

Oh yeah, it’s the decline and fall, just as it was in my day when I was ruined and scarred for life by Ann Margaret’s legs as she subjected me and every other boy to one horrible gyration after another. Man, that was bad. Really bad. Just. Bad.

I agree with you. I didn’t see anything wrong with it for children today. It was fun, she was wearing “dress up cloths” and not showing any more than a kid will see on TV or out on the street today. Sesame Street should never have caved to whoever was putting the pressure on them to pull it. Censorship works both ways and people should never forget that.

Gee Miley Cyrus had more cleavage showing on a music award show. So Katy Perrt had a flesh covered top that coverd the area so the breasts would not come out of them. Living up here in the Up of Michigan there are some ladies that wear clothes that show more cleavage than what was exposed on Seame Street. Okay working in the medical field at times I have to remind the female co-workers that wearing a bra would be nice when working with patients. the problem is American society is getting pretty open about certain aspects that need to be kept under the covers and yes wearing appropriate clothes.

If you watch the video of Elmo and Katy, Elmo was streaking.

True.

But this wasn't censorship. It was self-censorship. There's a difference.
