But stomach-gnawing poverty - life expectancy here has halved to just 35 since Mugabe came to power in 1980

But, but...Jimmy Carter called Ian Smith and his Rhodesian government, racist, apartheid and murderous.

Mugabe checking out should be done with a noose around his neck and afterward, swing ! At least that dictator didn’t come to NYC to beat his chest at the UN like M.A. of Iran. I think Chavez took a rain check this year !

> It puzzles me why an 86 year old man would still be storing up billions of $$$$. Is he planning to take it with him?

agreement between the two countries, the Chinese People's Liberation Army and Mugabe's military chiefs are plundering this diamond find, believed to be the biggest in the history of the world and worth an estimated £800 billion.

So vast are the riches that diamond experts believe the gems from Marange - in a country of less than ten million people - could account for more than a quarter of all diamonds mined around the globe, and could even trigger a massive slump in diamond prices if the stones come on the market and cause a glut.

Is that a hint of dynamic analysis in a press report? Here's a little secret... diamonds aren't nearly as rare as many other gems. If the DeBeers cartel didn't limit their production they would be much, much cheaper. To get the "800 billion pounds" worth, they would have to sell them which would crash the market, thus they wouldn't be worth 800 billion pounds.

Behold the FOOLISHNESS of the world!

40 years ago the world boycotted Rhodesia because native blacks were believed to be supressed by white colonists.

Now, the world stares in surprize as Zimbabwe’s native blacks are murdered, starved and beaten by their own.

...maybe the white colonists who built the farms and infrastructure that Mguabe squandered weren’t so bad afterall.

pious Christian Cecil Rhodes

That is a pretty odd and strong claim to put on the man, is that what he is known for, which Christian church was he pious in?

Zinbabwe...Yes, thank Jimmy Carter and Andrew Young for this one.

There was an old saying in Africa:

"Go to Rhodesia to see the historical ruins of ancient Zimbabwe."

Sadly now the reverse is true. Rhodesia was a rich and growing country until the 'Carter Crew' came along and created this monster.

An obvious question is: why hasn’t all this stunning wealth raised the standard of living there?

In America, we call it a "Stimulus Plan".

Excellent point.

I read a post the other day, talking about the Delaware race, saying:

“Marxism has killed a million times more people than witchcraft...”

$1.5 Trillion? Supply and demand say no. Diamonds cost a fortune because they are rare (and De Beers scams us) but if $1.5 Trillion worth of diamonds are found there...

You also have to factor in that there are different grades of diamonds and different uses, not simply jewellery. diamonds are used in precision cutting tools etc. Also, diamonds actually have no value, its just a piece of useless rock. It only has value because society as a whole bought DeBeers nosense about diamonds being sentimentally valuable that it has decided to instill a price.
