I do long for the good old days, when the UN was merely a platform for Soviet espionage.

I musta missed something.

As far back as I can remember, even into the 1950s, the UN was a leftist think tank embracing a platform for anti-western rhetoric.

Maybe they’re a little more brazen about it now, but that’s what they always were.

Maybe because it was founded? How else do you explain that the Soviet Union got three seats in the General Assembly (Russian, Belorussia and Ukraine) while the US got one (sorry, the Alaskan and Hawaiian Territories don't get their own seats). The exception of the Korean War happened because the vote to fight back against the North Korean invasion occurred while the Soviet Union was boycotting because the "wrong" China had the Chinese seat at the UN and on the Security Council. No boycott would have meant no UN involvment in the Korean War.

The UN has become sort of irrelevant. Just occasionally it does some good work, but it has become a third world forum with all the baggage that goes with the third world. That would be endemic corruption, huge bureaucracies, nepotism, favoritism, inefficiency and an ongoing hatred of the USA. Add to the mix the fact that Russia, China and one or two other countries take great delight in using the UN’s rules to constantly tweak the USA, and you end up with a supreme waste of time. Remembering the lesson of Russia and the Korean ‘war’, we ignore the UN at our peril but we should spend as little time and money on it as possible.

It was a crapfest from the beginning and of no use. The U.S. should have long ago pulled funding, thrown out the delegates (spies) and sold off the property and yes we do have that right since we have paid for almost all of the infrastructure.
