Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick a former member of the Clinton administration and key supporter of President Barack Obama - finds himself in a statistical dead heat with his GOP challenger a little more than a month before Election Day.
According to the new survey conducted for the Boston Globe by the University of New Hampshire, Patrick leads Republican businessman Charles Baker by a statistically insignificant 1-point margin, 35-34 percent. Independent candidate Timothy Cahill, the current state treasurer and a former Democrat, is drawing 11 percent while Green-Rainbow candidate Jill Stein is at 4 percent. Fourteen percent said they are undecided.
The latest survey shows a drop for Patrick, who in a Boston Globe poll earlier this summer led Baker by a 38-31 percent margin.
Adding to Patrick's troubles is the fact momentum is clearly on the GOP side: 78 percent of Republican voters say they are excited about the race while only 37 percent of Democrats say the same.
The poll surveyed 522 Massachusetts adults between September 17-22. The sampling error for the telephone survey is plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.
The survey comes five days after tempers raged at a Massachusetts gubernatorial debate Tuesday, hosted by CNN's Chief National Correspondent John King.

Cadillac Duval is going to get bounced, and that will be a delicious moment.
Now, if Bay State voters would only do that with the legislature, Massachusetts might be a decent place to live in again.
I have trouble determining if Duval is Barak-lite or if Barak is Duval-lite. But that’s not imporant—what is important is both must get fired at the earliest opportunity—and defanged between the next election and when they leave office.
Gerry Mandering will have something to say about that.
Using the voter enthusiasm to convert the poll results to likely voters, you can probably add from 6 to 10% to the GOPs percentages.
"...and for my next tune"
Y’all better get rid of some of your arrogant incumbent Congress-critters, too—especially Barney Frank and Ed Markey!!!!
Too bad that Kerry isn’t up for election. That statement that it is the stupid, uninformed electorate that is the problem, not the destructionist Democrat agenda, was the HEIGHT of arrogance!!!!
The problem with these incumbent Democrats is not only their cracked policies, but mainly that they never listen to their constituents. Throw them all out!!!!
Did you know that Gerry actually lived in Cambridge - at Gerry’s Landing.
Whom did he vote for? Oh wait...Cambridge. Never mind.
You can’t leave out John Olver and Nicki Tsongus.
“Not to worry for Deval - he will get a cushy job for two years working for Obama’s agenda after he is thrown out of Governor’s mansion.”
Any place but Massachusetts will do just fine. As for Obama’s agenda, after the coming Republican landslide, that agenda is toast.
.....You cant leave out John Olver and Nicki Tsongas....
Right!!!!
As I said before: The problem with these incumbent Democrats is not only their cracked policies, but mainly that they never listen to their constituents. Throw them all out!!!!
