There were no missiles to speak of in 1948. The up and coming delivery system was the awkward, transitional B-36 Peacemaker.

Oh well, why ruin a good story with history. I still like Chief Red Elk’s story about the malevolent, subterranean lizerd people better.
I saw a B-36 at Castle Air Museum in California last year. That thing was huge.
