Democrats in denial
NY Post ^ | September 27, 2010 | Rich Lowry

When John Kerry calls you out of touch, you must be so far out of touch that you need to call Mazlan Othman, the United Nations' designated liaison to space aliens, to re-establish contact with Planet Earth.

The Massachusetts senator is one of the world's experts in out of touch. What Tony Dungy is to leadership, Suze Orman is to thrift and Joel Osteen is to televised piety, John Kerry is to not getting it. He would never stoop to mere obliviousness -- not when he can don his wetsuit and windsurf contemptuous circles around the little people in a bravo act of haut out of touch.

So it was a signal moment when Kerry took it upon himself to explain the outlandish folkways of the American people: "We have an electorate that doesn't always pay that much attention to what's going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or truth or what's happening."

Take that, Velma Hart.

Those who saw Hart, a middle-class, African-American mother of two, confront President Obama at a CNBC town-hall meeting last week thought they had heard a genuine voice of dismay at the state of the economy and Obama's failure to deliver on his golden promises.

If we take Hart as representative of the public mood, though, Kerry must have instead discerned a clueless complainer. If only Hart were sufficiently plugged in, she'd have the sense to get over her economic anxiety. So what if she fears returning to frank-and-beans dinners? Does John Kerry carp when he's forced to move his $7 million yacht from Rhode Island to Massachusetts, where he has to shoulder an added $500,000 tax bill?

You mean, something like, "hope and change," Lurch?

If only Kerry were up for reelection this year! He called the voters ‘stupid’ and Clinton tried to cover his backside by saying Kerry had ‘misspoken’. Unfortunately the ‘stupid’ voters of MA. are stuck with Kerry until 2014.

You notice how the slogans of the left, “hope and change”, “Yes we can” are all monosyllabic?

Just sayin.

Actually, I think the people of MA will be “happy” to have Kerry represent them for as long as he cares to continue in office.

Or “Hope and Change.” Or “We are the ones we have been waiting for.”

The Obama campaign was nothing but a collection of mindless slogans.

" You notice how the slogans of the left, “hope and change”, “Yes we can” are all monosyllabic? "

That's because of the fine educational system they have created where the people can't count past the number 10.

While I agree with the overall point of the article, I hate having Velma Hart pushed forward as the face of suffering under the current regime. In fact, she didn't elicit sympathy from me. She seems to be a symptom of what's wrong with Americans, not the adminstration. A woman with a Masters degree, who heads a government agency, and is able to send her kids to private school, yet is disappointed that government isn't doing more to make her life better. If her big fear is a return to hot dogs and beans for dinner (which are delicious, not scary, IMHO), begs the question, what other choices have you made with your money? How big is your salary? How much does your huband make. What kind of car(s) do you drive? What vacations do you take? How much of your paycheck have you saved over the years? How big is your house, what is your mortgage? What exactly is it that you expect the government to be doing for you, and why is it their obligation? By her own admission, she was doing well under Bush. She thought her beanie-weenie days were behind her, so why did she vote for “fundamental change”? Basically her complaints remind me of Michelle Obama explaining how they were just an ordinary family trying to stretch their six figure salaries to cover private schools and dance and music lessons.

I do sympathize with her frustration in defending the Obama regime though. It must be tough to defend Obama to people who are actually suffering.

Like the simple and stupid liberal environmentalist commercial on the radio where you have a woman that keeps singing “ Green, Green, Green “ .....
