Obama says Fox News 'destructive' for U.S. growth
By Sheldon Alberts - Washington Correspondent, Postmedia News

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Tuesday called Fox News Network "ultimately destructive for the long-term growth" of the United States, reopening a long-running feud with the conservative cable network that has led the U.S. conservative media's opposition to his administration.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Obama accused Australian-born Rupert Murdoch, Fox's chairman and chief executive, of being more concerned about profits than the well-being of the United States.

He also compared Murdoch to William Randolph Hearst, the newspaper baron whose sensational publications produced the term 'yellow' journalism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Obama was asked in the Rolling Stone interview whether Fox was a good institution for America and democracy.

"Look, as president, I swore to uphold the Constitution, and part of that Constitution is a free press. We've got a tradition in this country of a press that oftentimes is opinionated. The golden age of an objective press was a pretty narrow span of time in our history. Before that, you had folks like Hearst who used their newspapers very intentionally to promote their viewpoints," Obama said.

"I think Fox is part of that tradition — it is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view. It's a point of view that I disagree with. It's a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world. But as an economic enterprise, it's been wildly successful. And I suspect that if you ask Mr. Murdoch what his No. 1 concern is, it's that Fox is very successful."

He probably ‘borrowed’ that line about "yellow journalism" from some reputable source, like Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega, Robert Mugabe, or Fidel himself.

Let’s see here Obomie-commie:

You got 69 million votes when you were elected.

Fox News averages 1.85 million viewers per night.

Since your approval rating is now 42% according to Gallup, that means that those 1.85 million viewers have somehow taken what they have learned from Fox News and brain washed 59% of your former supporters, or 40.1 million voters.

Yeah, must be Fox News...can’t be your assualt on the Constitution, or 10.6 unemployment...can’t be the massive debt you have brought upon us...can’t be forcing Obamacare on a country that said they did not want it...couldn’t possibly be your foreign policy blunders...

Yeah, it is Fox News that is destroying our nation.

"Look, as president, I swore to uphold the Constitution, . . ."

Yeah, but you swore on a Bible, doesn't count, does it Hussein? As well, lying to infidels to further jihad is OkeyDokey.

I cannot imagine having this dude as an employee in my company. Every day would bring forth some lame excuse why he can't perform his job - cleaning the freaking head. Of course, Obama woouldn't land the job in the first place because he has no experience doing anything but running his piehole for 48 years.

"part of that Constitution is a free press"

From one who has shredded every other provision of the Constitution, he now quotes it?

ROFL

What about "Freedom of Speech", asshat? What about "natural born Citizen"? Don't you want to cite those parts, too?

It's okay to control the propoganda machine with the State-Run-Media, but when the truth is broadcast elsewhere, you wanna shut them up?

The Tea Party was born because of this situation....

Given Obama’s credibility on economic growth, his statement will probably just boost confidence in Fox.

Thanks much! I always like to have advanced notice of 'Movies to Avoid' two years in advance. HA,HA

I guess other media outlets are just unbiased?

FNC tells us both sides more often than not, other outlets only give us leftist spin

"Obama accused Australian-born Rupert Murdoch, Fox's chairman and chief executive, of being more concerned about profits than the well-being of the United States."

I find this interesting since OBAMA is not concerned about either profits or the well being of the United States.

"Fox News is Destructive - Obama"

Fox's prima donna, Bill O'Bloviator, has been protecting and excusing O'Bama since the One was immaculated almost two years ago.

Because he prides himself on being editorially "fair" (though personally unbalanced), watch for O'Reilly to continue pandering to Hussein even though the faux president would slice-and-dice him in a Long Island minute if he got the chance.

I’d call Obama’s response here Nixonian, except for the fact that, despite Nixon’s liberal bent (floating currency, war on drug, EPA, etc.), Obama couldn’t shine Dick Nixon’s wingtips.
