A memorial service and stop-the-violence rally for an 18-year-old slaying victim in north Minneapolis turned into a small melee Sunday, with the victim's mother arrested, officers injured and squad cars damaged.

North Minneapolis has lots of Black civic leaders who for years have hollered about the problems there, yet no solutions are ever found. Don Samuels from Ward 5 is trying to overcome some of the cultural inertia in that district, but he's having a rough go of it. There are a lot of turf wars in the 'hood. Seems everyone wants to be the king rooster crowing, and it doesn't matter if he's standing on a sh_theap to do it.

I always kinda liked this guy, even though I was not a big twins fan:
I saw Killebrew hit the old scoreboard in old Memorial Stadium in Balto when I was a kid. That puppy was 500+ feet from home plate beyond the right-center field fence. Little opposite field poke, that’s all.
(Fran Tarkenton was another Minnesota guy well worth the price of admission. And—come to think of it—how far from Minneapolis is Michele Bachmann? She’s been known to hit ‘em further out than Harmon.)

The stores closing down in bad areas is part of Michelle Obamas problem with food deserts. She complained that many inner city areas dont have chain supermarkets with fresh produce, etc. And so too many people in the ghetto end up eating junk food from fast food places or a liquor store. If people there were interested in buying fresh produce, there would be fresh produce. If not from major supermarkets, then from little produce stands.
The problem is that preparing meals from fresh produce involves work, and many people there are allergic to work.

The only thing I ever liked about Minneapolis is live music at the RedStone in Eden Prairie on Wednesday nights. You and Kirby Puckett, but Redstone and Eden Prairie aren't in Minneapolis.

Well, there’s precedent for this. Once, Minnesota Democrats held a memorial service and a Nuremberg Rally broke out.

People whined and complained for years that there was no grocery store on the north side of Tulsa, OK. Well, they finally persuaded some schmo to open one, and within weeks it was robbed. From the comments made on the local paper’s website, some folks had a pool going to bet on the date this would happen.
And after all this, the poor manager said the store would probably close because they didn’t have enough business!
