Update: Catholic business being harrassed by gay group and Mayor in Indianapolis
Fox News ^ | 9-30-2010 | circlecity

This is an update and prayer request with regard to a thread posted yesterday. An Indianapolis business, "Just Cookies" is being harassed and threatened to have their lease terminated from the Indianapolis City Market because of complaints from a homosexual group. The group says "Just Cookies" denied them service due to homosexual animus. The real story is that the gay group asked the business to provide them with a special order of cup cakes decorated with rainbow icing for an event promoting homosexuality. The business refused because they don't sell cup cakes. They just sell cookies, thus the name of the business, "Just Cookies". This business is run by a devout Catholic couple and is a small kiosk in the Indianapolis City Market. It is a small mom and pop affair and these are good people just trying to make a living.

The media is turning this into a cause celebre and these people are scared to death. They didn't ask for any of this. The gays are misrepresenting the situation to further their agenda and destroy these people. The mayor of Indianapolis is threatening to terminate the business' lease and throw them out. I would ask all Free Republic Christians, Catholic and Protestant alike, to keep these people in your prayers and provide them with your business if you are near the Indianapolis area. They need our support. I have put them in contact with the Alliance Defense Fund and Alliance seems interested in the case.

Go ahead and make rainbow cupcakes with ExLax in them. The homos will actually like them.

Updated Indy Star Report

Appears to be a discrepancy whether or not it was rainbow cupcakes or rainbow cookies at issue. Doesn't really matter, either way it was a special order rather than just refusing to sell cookies off the shelf. By participating in the special order the owners of the business would have effectively been 'endorsing' the gay agenda at the University. They had moral objections to that and are now being crucified. This was NOT a case of discrimination.

Intolerance by gays on full display!

Without getting to the question of whether it was a cookie or a cupcake, the fact is the issue is one of FREE SPEECH with an individual demanding that a small business make a sign that the owner felt was offensive to his rights as a parent to protect his children.

Last time this happened it was in New Jersey when a guy who named his kid Hitler demanded that a ShopRite supermarket sell them a birthday cake with Adolf Hitler's name on it.

The state of New Jersey took the customer's kids away!

Apparently the State of New Jersey felt it sufficient in that case to focus on the welfare of the children, and to deny the purchaser the privilege of FORCING a bakery to prepare a sign or statement with which it disagreed.

What's happened here is the operator of the city market in Indianapolis has failed to catch up with child endangerment laws and instead focused squarely on the use of pudenda by the customers to force a business owner to endanger his own children.

Given that the laws here are supposed to pretty much be in line with standards and guidance worked out by the courts over the last two centuries, let me be among the first to suggest that the solution is to take the customer and the market manager and imprison them for child endangerment until this can be worked out.

Sent the letter supporting “Just Cookies”, but I don’t live in the area-what else can I do to support them? This is outrageous and has to come to a halt. I don’t doubt that the queer group has been looking for a “cause celebre” to gain notoriety and have no scruples about destroying the lives of people who were minding their own business and never asked to be in this position. The homosexual agenda is despicable, both tactics and goals.

Fudge brownies would be more appropriate.

The homosexual agenda needs to be stopped, period. These kinds of “test case” activities are happening all over the country with homosexuals going in and challenging a business to perform a service and making it clear that the service is for some homosexual purpose.

No one has a right to tell a private business owner with whom he must do business. Freedom of association, speech and expression means just that—if I don’t want to do business with you, the government may NOT tell me to do otherwise.

We need to fight these homosexual militants until they are defeated and driven back into the dark closet from which they emerged.

"what else can I do to support them?"

Pray for them. God takes care of his own and wants to hear our petitions. There is much power in prayer.

“Free speech” and bakery goods ambiguity aside, a PRIVATE business should be able to refuse service to anyone, at any time, AND without having to give a reason.

The state of New Jersey took the customer's kids away!

Talk about your apples and oranges.

The parents of “Adolph” were both disabled, unemployed, victims of abuse and had some severe psychological problems of their own. (Child Protective Services was already in contact with the parents before the bakery incident.) The birthday cake was irrelevant to the court decision to place their children in foster care. (Wal-Mart made the cake for them.)

“Just Cookies”, as a private business, has the right to refuse to offer their services to any customer, just as the bakery had the right to refuse to bake a cake with “Adolph” on it.

Irrespective of whether or not the family in New Jersey had been contacted by family services folks earlier, the fact is the primary issue here should be the welfare of the children, and I think the gay guy and his friend running the city market should be referred to the county jail!

I think its time to turn the tables on these idiots. We need to start ‘targeting’ homo businesses.

Find a bakery and tell them you want a special order for a cake, cupcakes, cookes (whatever) and you want Leviticus 18:22 printed on it. (You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination - Lev. 18:22).

When they refuse, and they will, hit them with an intolerance/discrimination lawsuit and hate crime against Christians.

Maybe we can start with Ben & Jerry’s. Demand a special ice-cream with Lev. 18:22 printed on the packaging.

Oh I know, hate crimes is only for gays, Christians need not apply. Whatever was I thinking - duh. /sarc

Arrgh - COOKIES, not cookes. I don’t even want to imagine what a homo might do with a cooke.

Hmmm, the obvious answer is to find some flaming baker and have them make a white angel cake with KKK frosting.

"It's the other proprietor stating his personal views, that's the problem, because that's not the image of the City Market and the image Mayor Ballard is trying to portray," Vane told FoxNews.com. "That's beyond the pale."

I'm sure the ACLU will be eager to defend David Stockton's First Amendment rights.

This is the message I sent to:

Gregory A. Ballard, Mayor
Indianapolis Mayor's Office
200 E. Washington St
Indianapolis, IN 46204
Phone: (317) 327-3601
Fax: (317) 327-5186

Dear Mayor Ballard:

I am interested in whether you can use the power of the Mayor's office to restore peace and freedom to business owners and customers in Indianapolis.

I understand that Just Cookies has not denied the right of any customers to buy cookies. All customers are welcome to buy their products --- no exceptions.

They did decline a "special order" which would be promotional of a homosexual event, and this is consistent with their expressive and religious freedom: not to be entangled in promoting an activitiy they find morally reprehensible.

This is not discrimination against a customer. It is an assertion of the right to decide "what to promote" and "what not to promote." They decided they did not want to be a part of a homosexual recruitment event at the University.

The Mayor's office should consider this a "teachable moment" to make this distinction: customers have a right to buy the store's usual wares; the store cannot be forced to provide special goods or services for an event which they do not choose to support.

If you will make this distinction, Just Cookies will be secure in the conscience rights which pertain to every American; and the gay group is perfectly free to get baked goods from other suppliers for their supporters.

Peace and freedom for all.

Personally, i would leave the city market and set up shop elsewhere and welcome the eviction unless the mayor was going to penalize them for the lease.
