I guess I’m just not yet ready for the utilikilt. My skinny white legs look bad enough in cut-offs.

I think we all have stories. I know I have several. Some good, some that frightened me. I always keep in mind that the officers are on duty to serve and protect, and I am not a criminal.

you hate an armed populace for the same reason every other tyrant does- it's a threat to your power. This is the first and only dishonest thing in the story. The officer hates any threat to his safety. Legitimate or not, there is a difference. I promise you, those officers with their weapons pulled weren't thinking about what fun it would be to kill somebody. They were in full-rush paranoia, almost a state of psychosis. It's one reason why so many cops are lousy shots. They fill themselves with such bile to the point that, when the time comes, it is uncontrollable.

Yes, our cops know the law now, LINK in post #6, and incidentally, The Calguns Foundation, doesn't encourage Unloaded Open Carrying of Firearms in urban areas. I have a question for you: My property line goes down the middle of the County road. I occasionally have need to carry my .357 while weeding the more remote parts of my property (coyotes, pigs, cats, snakes...). Sometimes my route takes me to the County road adjoining my property. Is open carry of a loaded weapon legal in California if I am on my property but also walking in a public right of way?
I'll take my answer on the air. :-)

Well, I am not a law enforcement officer. Were it my property, I would look in both directions and proceed with due diligence, staying very close to my own property. I am deathly afraid of rattlesnakes and probably of coyotes, too. .

Were it my property, I would look in both directions and proceed with due diligence, staying very close to my own property. Huh? I was ON my property. It also happens to be a County road. My property line extends to the center of the County road. I can walk down one side and be ON my property.
I'll bet the law is unclear on this question.

I think it’s quite a stretch to call it dishonest. It seems to me something people could have a difference of opinion about. There is some truth to both.

A worthwhile read. It is gratifying to see that even in this Age of Unreason, one man with courage can still make a majority.

I think its quite a stretch to call it dishonest. Not when the performance data re police officers in armed combat are considered. The prevalence of fear is simply so obvious that to argue otherwise is what takes a stretch.
I would add however that fear is probably augmented by a history of tyrannical behavior. Most bullies are in fact cowards.

Had he kept his mouth shut, refused to educate the officers, and allowed them to place him in a cell, he would have walked away with $250,000 taxpayer dollars.

They view a threat to their power as a threat to their safety. That explains the satisfaction they get by arresting you, putting you in jail and lying at your trial about the evidence. This covers 90% of the LEO’s.

Great read and despite the inconvenience suffered I am glad things didn’t go as horribly wrong here as in Nevada where a man was gunned down simply because he was carrying.
