Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates supports the income-tax initiative and will vote for it, according to the I-1098 campaign.
Sandeep Kaushik, a spokesman for Yes on 1098, said Gates' father, Bill Gates Sr., had a long conversation with his son on the matter and confirmed his support for the ballot measure.
Gates Sr. helped draft the income-tax initiative and is the public face for the measure, appearing in a recent television commercial for the campaign.
This is the latest in a string of announcements since Monday showing where some of the richest and most powerful people in the state are lining up on the measure, which would create a 5 percent tax rate on annual income exceeding $200,000 for individuals and $400,000 for couples, and a 9 percent tax rate on income that tops $500,000 for individuals and $1 million for couples.

BTW, if you click the link and read the rest of the story, you will learn that SEIU, WEA and WFSE are all throwing lots of money at this.
They need an initiative to cut spending and to stop sending our money out of the country......like to Mexico so they can drill in the Gulf when we can’t.
PING...did you see this?
It always amazes me how lefties(progressives=regressives)are so quick to Tax the hell out of people. Heaven forbid someone else make it to the top like they did.
IF HE LOVES THIS 5% INCREASE SO MUCH, PULL OUT5 HIS CALCULATOR AND A CHECK BOOK AND SEND IT TO THE GENERAL FUND OF THE STATE. AND THEN FOR GOOD MEASURE DO THE EXACT SAME THING FOR THE FEDERAL GENERAL FUND.
HYPOCRITS
Bill Gates also supports the Federal Inheritance tax. Freepers should let him know where to send extra taxes.

if this gets enacted....all citizens will have to file...because otherwise, how would the state know who had to pay...
and in two years, they can simply amend the income tax to include more and more people....
the state is a mess because it refuses to lessen pensions for its govt workers and make them pay for some of their health care...
its been a dimocrat run state for so long that I predict that we'll have a state wide income tax in a short number of years...maybe they'll exempt the teachers because their work is so "important"...
Same story, different book: I got mine. It makes me feel good for you to give yours to whatever makes me feel good or for what purpose I deem appropriate.
There was a big blow out at the my county tax meeting recently. Some were protesting why the county provides funding for various non profits. Someone pointed out, non profits who do a service for or in lieu of the county should be awarded contracts, not given alms.
Frankly, I thought that was an excellent point. The moral of course is the county commissioners feel good funding these things and they feel better as they do it with some elses money.
This is one of the reasons why I detest Gates. He truly is out of touch with Americans. You simply do NOT tax people who are financially successful and punish them for that success.
Why doesnt he just put his money where his mouth is, stand at a corner, and give out HALF his money in cash because he stated that every rich person should do so?
I hate these wealthy executives who support these liberal initiatives ! They can afford to pay them but it kicks the common in the face with more stupid fees and charges !
Why don’t the HYPOCRITES GATES’and BUFFET give ALL their money to the GOVERNMENT instead of the TAX FREE SLUSH FUND THEY FORMED?
The dims never learn. Every state that has tried to tax the rich have actually pulled in less tax revenue. The solution to the problem is simply to starve the dimocrap controlled state government in Washington.
Just to clarify. Washington state has no state income tax currently. This initiative would, for the first time, impose a state income tax, on “the rich.”
It’s a bad idea, but in addition, there is nothing stopping the legislature from taxing everyone if this passes.
And I agree with you that if he thinks it’s such a great idea, he ought to just send in a check, and leave everyone else out of it.
Deranged.
Ofcourse it will hit anyone that wants to build a business to give his/her family a better life.
Get out your checkbook Mr Gates and leave everyone else alone.
When you’re worth billions, it’s easy to tell the “little people” they need to learn how to get by on less. Bill Gates, Sr. is running ads in Washington state cheering on the income tax initiative, but never uses the words “income tax”.
This equals more millionaires moving to Texas, Florida or other no income tax states. Washington state loses.
“This equals more millionaires moving to Texas, Florida or other no income tax states. Washington state loses.”
Texas is horrible. It’s hot and humid, traffic is awful. The people are a bunch of dumb, gun totin’ rednecks. Everything sticks, stings or stinks - ya’ know, all those fartin’ cows. Florida is much better. Beautiful beaches and lots of cheap housing and such because of the mortgage mess. Yep, they need to go to Florida. Texas already has quite enough of liberals and we don’t need anymore, rich or not!
Lefties are evil and support nothing but destruction. They are determined to destroy all that exists in any free society. They know that the ideology they support has never been successful, and in fact can't succeed, but they charge ahead anyway with their destruction. In the process millions of non-believers are murdered. It is not that they are unaware of the "unintended consequences" of their actions, the consequences are in fact intended.
They succeed by exploiting the idiots who believe their lies.
As far as these rich people supporting higher taxes - they have already shielded their wealth from taxes by putting it into trusts and foundations. They either profit from higher taxes, like Buffet does when buying good businesses that have to be sold by heirs to pay the estate taxes and from selling insurance which is not taxable upon death - getting a twofer out of the deal, or are unaffected by them.
They know the burden will fall on the middle class but they don't care as long as they get theirs.
