The New York Times noted the passing of Joseph Sobran: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/02/books/02sobran.html
The Times noted:
"Mr. Sobran, one of the conservative whiz kids whom William F. Buckley draft-picked for National Review straight out of college, made his mark with witty, thoughtful essays on moral and social questions. He was an unapologetic paleoconservative, opposed to military intervention abroad, big government at home and moral permissiveness everywhere".

Sobran was a talented writer, but for that single prominent flaw.
What a waste.

And now the increasingly virulent anti-Semites are on the left - on campuses, among minorities, and in mosques and in churches such as Rev. Wright’s.

Great article, and it helps me understand Mr. Buckley that much more.

Buckley knew very well who buttered his bread.

There is nothing “Far Right” about antisemitism... or Joe Kennedy either. Nor is criticism of Israel as a nation necessarily antisemitic.
If you ARE antisemitic it may lead you to criticism of Israel, but it will not lead you to become Joe Kennedy, nor Joe Sobran, whose first problems were not criticisms of Buckley nor the state of Israel, but his growing antisemitism.
It is a laughable caricature to portray Buckley in fear that the Liberal Media would “destroy” him with false accusations. That's all he ever got from them.
My take on Sobran’s departures:
