So.... what are they going to do if the entire student body simply just took them off, hung them on the fence out in the rain, and refused to wear them? Just Say NO!!

Geez...what the hell happened to young rebellious teens? Where’s your balls, kids?

We (in my teen years) would have taken these things off and thrown them in the river and let the chips fall where they may.

F*** this nany state BS and all those who encourage it.

Put it in a metal-lined pocket protector or between a couple of foil-wrapped candy bars. That should screw up the read range.

What boggles my mind is that the parents and kids went along with it, only complaining.

What’s wrong with these people?!?!?!?!?!

They should yank those kids so fast the school’s collective head would spin.

Has the dumbing down of America already been accomplished?

The majority of American Christians have been so brain-damaged by public education that they are unable to perceive the harm done to their own thought processes -- or what the same indoctrination process will do to their own children.

One MORE reason to get entirely rid of the public indoctrination system!!!

The bar code contains certain information about you, not sure of the totality of it, that, when scanned, can tell if you are authorized to be in certain areas, etc. But it cannot be read from a distance, as an RFID can be...

“Please remember this the next time you meet the government teacher in your church, among your relatives. or neighborhood. She may be very sweet, loves her cat, and is as cute as a button...BUT...She is teaching evil.”

A bit of a broad brush, there, FRiend. I am one of the “government teachers” you're talking about. I'm not female. I'm a retired USAF Master Sergeant. I do NOT teach evil. Best way to avoid that sort of thing is for more conservatives to become teachers. Admittedly, I'm in Oklahoma, where even Libs are more conservative, not California or New York. If you don't like what is happening in the schools in your area, I'd say “Get involved!” If you aren't part of the solution, you ARE the problem.

Sorry, but this is much ado about nothing.

Fact: RFIDs have a range in the 10s of feet. So the school can't monitor you off school grounds. The SROs obviously detected several students leaving the building and followed them. No homing beacons needed.

Fact: most major corporations use some method of access control. How many people need to show IDs, badges, or scan their way into work? So what is the big deal if the school can see that a student is in the back hallway (or better yet, two students... since a nearby school has had multiple incidences of students caught in stairwells, maintenance halls, etc. having sex already this year. And for every couple you catch...) when they aren't supposed to be? Schools already have hall passes for access control; why shouldn't they make the system better?

Fact: students do not have the "right" to wander where they please. When a teacher says "Go to the bathroom," it's not a license to wander the halls. And if an RFID tag shows that a kid is wandering, then it is doing him a favor (by teaching him accountability). All of the parents who are hyperventilating over this are the same parents who are making our schools uncontrollable in classes ("You don't have to do what the teacher says"... but wait until they try to kick the defiant brat out: "My son has a right to an education!").

Sorry, but unless you can show me where the school is tracking kids at home or at the local mall, this is a non-event. A school is well within its prerogatives in tracking its students on campus.

This is damned scary. Anyone in public office who supports this needs to be removed from office immediately.

... and then have a non-removable tracking device installed on him!

This is how all this stuff starts folks. They put it in the schools to get the little drones being used to being tracked and treated like cattle. It doesn't end there.

A bit of a broad brush,...
+++++++++++++++++++++++

Bit of a broad brush? Really? So?...What in the following is not true? Please remember that this applies to all government schooling and is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT directed at any individual personally.

**All government schools are socialist-funded. That means the government can and will take armed police action if a citizen seriously resists pay school taxes. Children who attend these socialist-funded schools learn to be comfortable with the government providing socialist social services. Well?...If the government can take money from a neighbor to pay for a social service that their parents want for tuition-free, why not a thousand other social wants and needs?

Is teaching children to be comfortable with socialism evil or not?

The New Deal, The Great Society, and Hope and Change was an accident. Socialist-model government schools made it inevitable.

All government schools in this nation are godless! Children who attend these godless schools learn to think godlessly. And...It continues after school with homework and school assignments. Is teaching a child to do this evil or not?

All government schools in this nation are compulsory. That means unless a parent can ransom a child by providing home or private schooling he MUST ( under the threat of armed police action) attend! Personally, I call the extra money needed for ransom “Jizya”. Is it evil or not to teach children to be comfortable with government compulsion?

Most government schools in this nation are government owned and run. ( Yes, there are a very small number of charters that are more fascist than pure socialist.) Children who attend become comfortable with government ownership and management of their very lives, soon there will be Death Panels. So?...Is it evil or not to teach children to be comfort with government ownership and management of their lives.

I report. You decide.

Let me just ask what state you’re in, and comment that from what I can see, you’ve not spent all that much time in a public school lately. I’ve mostly worked in a high school the past few months, and I’m not seeing much of anyone trying to make kids “comfortable” with socialism. Even if they were trying, however, the truism that familiarity breeds contempt seems to be true. Of course, maybe it’s just Oklahoma, although I doubt that. I wasn’t seeing that much in middle or elementary schools, either, over the past few years. Not even among the special ed kids.

RFID read distance record is 217 feet

This kind of thing is improving constantly.

Are our students going to school or prison?

Yes! (I know the answer to that and I haven't even been in one in decades)

And mom doesn't cook your meals.

Actually, in some third world hell holes, they feed you crap (or nothing) and if your family wants you to eat better than what the prison provides, they have to show up with food for you.

Question. Just renewed my ID card. I've long known that there is a scannable bar code on the back of my military ID. They often scan it as we drive on post. Is that trackable beyond recording that I'm on post? In other words, what does the bar code do? Anyone know?

Barcode, no. The RFID chips, depending on the tech, can be read up to a few inches or in some cases 10 or 20 feet, so the sensors can be placed at choke points you have to pass and the locations chained into a narrative of where you go and how long you stay. The barcode isn't getting read any time you're not aware of it, unless you're wearing it around your neck and it's facing forward. Purely line of sight.

I’m with the kid on this. He’s being a bit dramatic, but his instincts are right.

Sure. The cops tracked him to the Shell station when he was supposed to be in school.

Actually his instincts may be right. Why does he need to go to school? Why not hang out at the Shell station? The government will provide housing and welfare and he can deal drugs for walking around money. And the government will still feed him into obesity.

When you and I went to school, they kicked out the troublemakers. Now they punish the good kids and coddle the troublemakers.
