Woodward Hints at Powell as Next SecDef
Military.com ^ | October 01, 2010 | Ward Carroll

Legendary author and reporter Bob Woodward indicated that former JCS Chairman and Secretary of State Colin Powell might get the nod to replace Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense when Gates leaves in 2011.

“I’ve heard suggestions that [President Obama] might lean on Colin Powell,” Woodward said to Military.com during an exclusive interview behind the release of Obama’s Wars, his latest book. “Obama needs some good news in this war,” he added with the notion that persuading Powell to take the job would certainly be a good move in the eyes of most of the American public. Woodward also pointed out that the Powell Doctrine deals with the use of overwhelming force, which could mean Powell’s instincts might be to ask for even more troops in order to end the war faster and more definitively.

Obama’s Wars is Woodward’s latest look at the innermost workings in and around Washington’s halls of power, and the book gives some of the most detailed behind-the-scenes glimpses of the Obama White House to date.

If Powell wants it he will almost certainly get it. It will almost as certainly be a disaster.

Zero trying to get Powell to take over his job as CIC, without the title. Is Powell really that stupid?

“Obama needs some good news in this war,”

I would not see this as a positive move.

No it would not be, probably be a disaster IMHO but since when has that ever been a deterrent to Obama?

Powell is such a hypocrite. He was coddled and brought along by Republicans when he really was nothing special, except an especially good boot-licker. Then he ingratiated himself with media by leaking all the time. He then endorses Bambi only because of race, when McCain was the kind of Republican Powell said the GOP should put forth as a candidate: moderate, works both sides of aisle, etc. McCain was also highly regarded by veterans as a POW. Powell’s aide Richard started the whole Valerie Plame blame game which got Scooter Libby jailed and tied down Rove for 2-3 years. Powell is just a POS and he does not deserve any further consideration. But of course so is Bambi, so Powell will probably drive the final nail into our country’s defense effort’s coffin with a smile on his and Bambi’s faces.

Sadly, I think maybe he is.

That would say more about Powell than it would about the person who claims to be President. I don’t know who, in their right mind, would want to be associated with that administration.

AA queen/gofer/functionary Colin Powell will not get appointed SecDef. In order for Obama to preserve some shreds of credibility with white voters in 2012, some older white guy (willing to play Obama’s stooge) like Gates will get the appointment

Powell got moved up the ladder when Ability and Merit were thrown out the window and race became the preference in spite of a persons incapacity.

Just in case you are wrong, and uhbama knows he owes a payback to the man without a core, and this happens, I feel sorry for our military and in turn, for all of us.

CP would lunge for this appointment. This is the collision point for vanity and lust for power and lust to be back in the game. The DC game that is
