Palestinian worker killed as he sneaks into Israel

SAIR, West Bank -Israeli police killed a West Bank construction worker as he tried to sneak into Jerusalem on Sunday, shedding rare light on the risks taken by thousands of Palestinians who are desperate for jobs but are denied permits to enter Israel. The victim, Izzedine Kawazbeh, a 35-year-old father of five, was shot after scaling Israel's towering separation barrier by rope and dashing across a wide stretch of road heavily patrolled by Israeli police. Israel started building the barrier in 2002 during a wave of Palestinian suicide bombings that killed hundreds of Israelis. The last one was in February 2008. In an added twist, some of the laborers head to construction jobs in Jewish settlements, helping Israel tighten its hold on lands the Palestinians want for their state. The workers say they are too busy struggling to feed their families to think much about the risk or the nature of their work. West Bank jobs are scarce, and a laborer there makes only about half of what he would get on an Israeli construction site.

This is in my neighborhood. I pass through Sair twice a day by bus.

Such risk for work doesn’t seem like the true purpose is ‘work’.....unless you are in Mexico and crossing into the US wherein it is just standard practice..

Wow, who could have known that scaling the wall and running across a heavily patrolled barrier strip would result in police action?

Let’s work towards understanding these people better. Not.

I wish we would do the same to those invading our country on a daily basis. Illegal immigration problem would be solved overnight.

It is standard practice. Usually nobody gets shot, though. If only there had been no settlement freeze, there would have been more work available in Judah and Shomron, and less need to cross in this manner. Thank you, Obama. Is it piece yet?

Just doing the jobs that Israelis won’t do.

And when the Arabs have kicked all the Israelis out, will there be any jobs?

Doesn’t take much work. He wanted to make money for his family. Fine. I understand that. He had to risk crossing the border to make more money, because there aren’t enough jobs here (Abbas is taking care of that any day now). I completely understand that.

So let’s get rid of the border and annex Judah and Shomron, already. We should have done it in 1967. It’s not too late. The only real obstacle is Fatah and Hamas. So invite the Arabs to kill Fatah and Hamas leadership as the price of their entry into the State of Israel. They can have local autonomy, equal rights for all, no border crossings, and the same minimal wages as other Israeli citizens earn. I’m for it. I live here. Let’s do it.

No bias in the first sentence of the article - no sirree. It’s ISRAEL’s fault that this guy got killed while trying an illegal entry. Good grief.

No. There’ll be starvation and civil war. If they manage to divide Jerusalem, there will be death and destruction. But at least we’ll have piece.

Not only that, but deputize all the landowners in a 10 mile border zone and allow them to do the same.

Note the AP's word choice at the beginning of the second sentence:

The victim

No question about their bias.

Yep. If someone is breaking into your house in the middle of the night and you shoot him, who is the victim?

Of course AP thinks it is the thieves and burglars.

Exactly. But let’s try the same thing again. The result will be different this time. The One says it will.

Eleutheria5,

Are these the same palestinians who have repeatedly snuck bombs in to Israel and set them off in busy public squares, busses etc?
Do you feel safe where you are?
How do they feel about Obammy over there?
What about these “peace” talks going on?
WE would all appreciate any incite you may bring to the table cause you are there.
Thanks.

shedding rare light on the risks taken by thousands of Palestinians who are desperate for jobs but are denied permits to enter Israel.

Well, how about you "Palestinians" quit begging jobs from Joos, and eff off back to your native Monkeylands in Jordan etc., and get jobs pleasuring the local imams?

Since that's about the only employment that exists in Muslim hives, because you are culturally allergic to acting like humans, but insist on living off the fruit of the civilization you hate.

I think we should place all military bases on the borders, almost eliminating the need for border patrol. See somebody out of uniform crossing the ranges and the MP’s arrest them for trespassing. If we get serious about border protection, we could easily lick this problem.

Nailed it!

What prevents the Palis from creating their own crop of Nobel laureates; by study, dedication, and hard work? Heck, doesn’t even have to be a crop of Nobel laureates. How about just a crop of successful engineers, businessmen, etc.? What’s stopping them? (Hint: the word begins with “I”.)
