Blumenthal Up on McMahon By Double Digits
Public Policy Polling ^ | 4 October 2010 | Tom Jensen

Raleigh, N.C. – Contrary to polls in the last week showing Linda McMahon closing to a single-digit deficit behind Richard Blumenthal in the Connecticut Senate race, PPP’s first measure of the race since January shows the Democrat still well ahead, though not by the 20-point-plus edge he had had in the spring. The state’s popular Democratic Attorney General leads the Republican WWE executive, 53-41, among likely voters.

For what it's worth.. I realize it's PPP, but was hoping for a better result nonetheless.

Relating those old war stories on the campaign trail must be working for him.

Truth be told, I couldn’t give a rat’s ass. I’d rather the GOP v. Dems/Obama showdown take place in conference committee than after the bill gets to Obama’s desk. Swing-state battles matter; battles with real conservatives showing up libtards (Washington, Colorado, Pennsylvania) matter. All winning in Illinois and Connecticut will do is give the mushy middle a reason to blame the Republicans, and the RINOs a solid voting block to undermine conservatives.

FWIW, if McMahon actually WERE a conservative, her winning ad would read like this:

“For years, Senator Chris Dodd ran the banking committee. Under his leadership, Congress passed laws that forced banks to make loans even to illegal aliens with no valid U.S. identification, no money down, and artificially suppressed teaser rates. When Senator Dodd took kickbacks to spread these shady practices, Attorney General Dick Blumental looked the other way. Hartford’s Insurance industries went bankrupt. And Connecticut taxpayers paid the bill. Now, that outside criticism has finally forced Chris Dodd to step down, Dick Blumenthal expects to take his job. Outrageous.”

PPP results border on propoganda.

Sometimes they hit the target, though. They were the only ones to poll COD ahead prior to the primary in DE. That said, I realize they attempt to lead public opinion as well as report on it, thus my caveat in #1.

“Wait for Rasmusssen.”

Or SUSA.

This race will be close, irrespective of what the Kos-subsidized PPP claims.

An opponent who won’t disagree with him in public on any issues?

Sure, 41% Dem, 30% indep and 28% Repub - another fair PPP poll!

Even if those percentages represent CT demographics, the first group is going to be a no show in November. Even in CT, the indep and GOP is fired up. The Vietnam Vet. has his hands full.

I think removing Obama in 2012 is more important than having technical control of Congress in 2010. Let the Democrats continue to take the blame for the consequences of their policies in the meantime.

I live in Connecticut. Dick 'I misspoke' Blumenthal is undeservedly popular and has excellent name recognition in Connecticut because he's been AG and a inveterate news hog for 20 years. The local media leans left (Hartford Courant is a commie rag) and the Democrats have a huge voter registration advantage. Add to that, the RNC routinely ignores CT and the state GOP is basically moribund. Fortunately, Linda McMahon can fund her own campaign and, in this anti-incumbent election, may squeak out a win. She is not a conservative but she may be better than a RINO. In any case, Blumenthal is a cold fish and after basically phoning it in for the last 5 elections, he isn't used to campaigning and may just blow it.

McMahon needs to get tougher in her TV ads, which are ubiquitous. She should be caling out the Democrats for their corruption and feckless disregard for the will of the people, while bankrupting the country, then hang the Democrat label on Blumenthal. He can be beat and McMahon has the money to do it. This is the year to do it. I hope she wins. That having been stated, Connecticut is a blue state and will never elect a solid conservative Republican - but McMahon will do. Frankly, she'll have to.
