Posted on 10/04/2010 4:52:12 PM PDT by Red in Blue PA
A document obtained and witnesses interviewed by Fox News raise new questions over whether there was an effort by the Defense Department to cover up a pre-9/11 military intelligence program known as "Able Danger."
At least five witnesses questioned by the Defense Department's Inspector General told Fox News that their statements were distorted by investigators in the final IG's report -- or it left out key information, backing up assertions that lead hijacker Mohammed Atta was identified a year before 9/11.

By the Clinton Administration, please note.
Wait a dang minute. That would have been on Clinton’s watch. Say it ain’t so..........
Yes, Yes never tell on the Clintons.
Able Danger = The stuff in clinton admin guys pants?
Isn’t Able-Danger the report that Sandy Burglar snuck out of his office in his shorts?
That Congressman from PA was all over this back in 2005-06.
Clinton tried to have ABC pull the Harvey Keitel movie.
I seem to recall he did say when Bush took over that we'd be at war within a year.
It was well known that there was a possibility that American planes could be used as missiles in a terrorist attack long before 9/11. I remember reading information here at FR and/or on the web about Ramzi Yousef and his diabolical plans for the World Trade Center after the attack in 1993.
“Able Danger.” was a Bush AND Clinton cover-up. The expose of it cost Curt Waldon his US House seat to Sestak!
I remember well when we were all interested in Able Danger and then all of the sudden ... *poof*. What was the Congressman’s name? Weldon?
(The) Path to 9/11 is the movie. The version that was finally shown cut several damning scenes out but it still pinned the tail on the donkey (Hannity and others put the scenes on the internet).
There was a plane-based plot over the Pacific that was broken up - I don’t remember how long before 9/11 that was.
“It was well known that there was a possibility that American planes could be used as missiles in a terrorist attack long before 9/11.”
And it was portrayed in the Lone Gunmen television show in March of 2001 as a government consipiracy.
We would NEVER in our wildest IMAGINATIONS have thought anyone would use a jetliner to attack us.
Who said it?
Clinton said that?
I don't remember it, but he does tend to run his mouth...
Disappeared like a cloud of smoke.

Gorelick Aide Blocked Able Danger Testimony
An aide to former Clinton Justice Department official Jamie Gorelick blocked the 9/11 Commission from hearing bombshell testimony about the findings of the elite Able Danger military intelligence team, Rep. Curt Weldon said late Friday.
“The person who debriefed [Able Danger analyst] Scott Philpot was, in fact, the lead staffer for Jamie Gorelick,” Weldon told the Fox News Channel’s “Hannity & Colmes.” “His name was Dieter Snell.”
Weldon contended: “It was Dieter Snell who did not brief the 9/11 Commission. The 9/11 Commissioners were never briefed on Able Danger.”
Gorelick was the lead Democrat on the 9/11 Commission.
Weldon said Able Danger team members have been “gagged” by the Pentagon and by Defense Intelligence Agency leaders who stand to be embarrassed by their revelations.
“The Defense Intelligence Agency has people who were held over from the previous administration,” he told Fox News. “They were there when [Able Danger] brought forward this information.”
The Pennsylvania Republican said that besides identifying Atta and three other 9/11 hijackers as terrorist threats, Able Danger had warned of the impending attack on the U.S.S. Cole.
“Two weeks before the attack on the U.S.S. Cole,” he told “Hannity & Colmes, “they sensed that something was about to happen in Yemen. Two days before the attack on the Cole - and the arrival of the Cole in harbor - they warned that the ship should not enter the harbor.”
“This information needs to be brought to the public,” Weldon said. “We lost 3,000 people here. This cannot be covered up. This is 3,000 times worse than Watergate.”
We had another problem...Jamie Gorelick and the wall.
CNSNews.com staff writer Scott Wheeler reported that a senior U.S. government official and three other sources claimed that the 1995 memo written by Jamie Gorelick, who served as the Clinton Justice Departments deputy attorney general from 1994 to 1997, created “a roadblock” to the investigation of illegal Chinese donations to the Democratic National Committee. But the picture is much bigger than that. The Gorelick memo, which blocked intelligence agents from sharing information that could have halted the September 11 hijacking plot, was only the mortar in a much larger maze of bureaucratic walls whose creation Gorelick personally oversaw.
Posted this a few days ago, The Obama Administration is burning the book, Operation Dark Heart, its a book about Able Danger.
Curt Weldon was a staunch supporter of the Able Danger effort and of Tony Shaeffer. And no one will ever convince me that he wasn’t targeted (and ultimately destroyed politically) by the Clinton gang in the 2006 election because of it. Both Clinton and Berger were/are strong supporters of Sestak.
It taint going to go away.
Are they going to burn the 2nd printing too? And the 3rd, 4th, 5th........
The govt is so inept it is not funny.
I'm in no way blaming anybody, especially Bush since he had only been President for eight months. But, I'm sure some information was out there.
That was the plot known as "Bojinka" that included Razmi Youssef, the '93 WTC bomb plotter who got away but was subsequently caught and is in Federal lock up for a long time. It was mid-90's, IIRC.
I think you mean Curt Weldon.
Nope, just heavily censor them.
It will be known as the Best Seller that no one read/saw.
You think there's maybe one copy still out there, somewhere??
And remember she also erected a wall within the FBI forbidding the criminal agents from sharing info with counterintelligence.
IMO if there is anyone responsible for 9/11, Jamie Gorelict comes closest.
Boy I hope that story has legs!!! (not Hillary’s legs, either)...but I do hope it hits Hillary, too.
Now that obama has been castrated, (politically) more truths will be coming out from Patriots who will not hid anymore. After all, they survived Clinton, Bush and now Obama.
They had to do with the wars in the former Yugoslavia - in order to put down the Serbs, the Clinton Administration helped Jihadists from the Middle East/Pakistan/Afghanistan to come to the Balkan countries to fight on the side of their fellow Muslims. Since then, Jihadists have established beachheads there.
After a little research. . . found it. It was called Operation Bojinka, not Bojoinka. As you said, it was also mentioned at FR after the fact.
The Bojinka plot was a planned large-scale terrorist attack by Ramzi Yousef and Khalid Shaikh Mohammed to blow up twelve airliners and their approximately 4,000 passengers as ...
That Sandy Berger guy?
From April 2004:
Oklahoma City, TWA Flight 800, and the Gorelick connection
To finally understand what happened you have to keep asking the question, WHY ARE THEY LYING?
If I told you what happened, you wouldn't believe me. Gerald Ford was to the Warren Commission what Jamie Gorelick was to the 9/11 Commission.
History repeats itself
A Congressman (Weldon ?) was talking about this some years ago, even had a blog.
She then made millions in some position or other in Fanny Mae or Freddy Mac.
Shaffer, who was undercover at the time, said there was “stunned silence” at the meeting after he told the executive director of the commission and others that Atta was identified as early as 2000 by “Able Danger.”
“Dr. Philip Zelikow approached me in the corner of the room. ‘What you said today is very important. I need you to get in touch with me as soon as you return from your deployment here in Afghanistan’,” Shaffer said.
Once back in the U.S., Shaffer says he contacted the commission. Without explanation, the commission was no longer interested. An inspector general report by the Department of Defense concluded there was no evidence to support the claims of Shaffer and others. But Fox News has obtained an unredacted copy of the IG report containing the names of witnesses, who backed up Shaffer’s story when contacted for comment.
Would like to hear your opinion on the matter.
Capt. Scott Phillpott, head of the Able Danger program, asks Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer to talk to a representative of CIA Director George Tenet and attempt to convince him that the new Able Danger program is not competing with the CIA. Shaffer later recalls the CIA representative replying, I clearly understand the difference. I clearly understand. Were going after the leadership. You guys are going after the body. But, it doesnt matter. The bottom line is, CIA will never give you the best information from Alex Base [the CIAs covert action element targeting bin Laden] or anywhere else. CIA will never provide that to you because if you were successful in your effort to target al-Qaeda, you will steal our thunder. Therefore, we will not support this. Shaffer claims that for the duration of Able Dangers existence, To my knowledge, and my other colleagues knowledge, there was no information ever released to us because CIA chose not to participate in Able Danger. PROJECT “ABLE DANGER”
By Dennis L. Cuddy, Ph.D.
August 23, 2005
Recently, there has been revealing news about the U.S. Army’s Project “Able Danger,” which was established in September 1999 by Gen. Peter J. Schoomaker, then head of the Special Operations Command. Schoomaker had previously advised Texas Governor Ann Richards and the FBI regarding what military equipment could be used in the attack upon the Branch Davidians at Waco (a mock-up of the Davidians’ compound was at Fort Hood, Texas, where Schoomaker was an assistant to Gen. Wesley Clark, a Rhodes Scholar named by fellow Rhodes Scholar President Bill Clinton to be military head of NATO). Schoomaker has also advocated joint military training exercises with the Communist Chinese, and on August 1, 2003 President George W. Bush named him Army Chief of Staff.
Able Danger used advanced technology and data analysis to identify and target Al-Qaeda members around the world. Long before the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Able Danger identified 9-11 ringleader Mohammed Atta in September 2000 as part of an Al-Qaeda cell in Brooklyn, and eventually 60 members of Al-Qaeda were identified.
Concerning Atta’s background, in November 1998 he and several other terrorists moved into a 4-bedroom apartment in Hamburg, Germany. On February 17 of the next year, German intelligence began tapping suspected Al-Qaeda terrorist Mohammed Haydar Zammar’s phone, and they heard Zammar was at a meeting with Atta. By December 1999, the CIA began to recruit German businessman Mamoun Darkazanli for information because he knew Atta and others of the Hamburg Al-Qaeda terrorist cell.
The next month (January 2000), according to the German intelligence magazine FOCUS (September 24, 2001), the CIA began surveillance of Atta which lasted to May 2000. Christian Elflein and others wrote in the FOCUS article that “U.S. agents followed him (Atta) mainly in the area around Frankfurt am Main and noted that Atta bought large quantities of chemicals for the possible production of explosives....On May 18, 2000 the U.S. Embassy in Berlin gave (Atta) a visa....Strange that the visa application and granting it happened in the period when the (CIA) was still observing the suspicious buying of chemicals by the person (Atta) concerned....Someone from the (German) intelligence service (told) FOCUS: ‘We can no longer exclude the possibility that the Americans wanted to keep an eye on Atta after his entry in the USA.’...German security experts are still stunned about the speed with which the FBI could present the conspirative ties of Atta and his presumed Hamburg accomplices. ‘As (if all it needed was) a push on a button,’ an insider says, ‘As if the Americans for a long time already had loads of info on their computers about the culprits.’”
At this point, it is worth mentioning that Yossef Bodansky (director of the U.S. House of Representatives Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare) in TARGET AMERICA: TERRORISM IN THE U.S. TODAY (1993) referred to a large Islamist network spanning the U.S. including “all the components of a mature terrorist support system (with) safe houses in major cities, weapons, ammunition, money, systems to provide medical and legal aid, false identity papers, and intelligence for the operative.” The point in including this here is to ask how Bodansky would know about all this unless the terrorist network were already being monitored by the federal government?
Do tell. Freepmail me if you like.
