Latinos not enthusiastic but likely to vote Democratic, survey says

Los Angeles — Latinos, a key part of the Democratic coalition that helped put President Obama in the White House, have the same lack of enthusiasm as other voters but will likely vote Democratic in this year’s midterm election, according to a survey released Tuesday by the Pew Hispanic Center.

The survey, based on bilingual telephone interviews with 1,375 Latinos from Aug. 17 through Sept. 19, shows that 65% of registered Latino voters said they plan to support a Democrat while 22% said they prefer a Republican. That is about the same as the party identification: 62% of Latinos say they favor Democrats and a quarter saying they favor Republicans.

Latinos appear to be less motivated than other voters. About 32% said they have given this year's election “quite a lot” of thought, compared to about half of all voters. About 51% of Latinos said they were “absolutely certain” they will vote, compared to 70% of all voters.

About 44% of those Latinos who consider themselves Republicans said they had given a lot of thought to the election, while just 28% of Latino Democrats said the same, according to the survey.

>>> I could never understand why hispanics, who are religious, warriors, and entrepreneurs by nature, could support the party of fruits, nuts, atheists, pansies, and bums.

When a member of the base of the party of fruits, nuts, atheists, pansies, and bums wants to make a REALLY nasty remark about a person, they don’t figure calling him “Juan” will do it. Lots of our base however think that’s as cutting a remark as anyone could offer. Then he’ll pat himself on the back for how clever a line that was.

You work hard enough at pushing people away, you’ll probably succeed.

No, it is a Protestant/Catholic thing, just as it has always been for whites.

Would you be surprised to find out that California Protestants vote strongly Republican, while everyone else votes liberal?

As a Catholic I don’t get Catholic Democrat support.

I’m Catholic too.
I think it’s tradition.

Catholics in the 20th century were typically working class blue collar and union folks.

My Irish Catholic Dad (RIP) was an outcast for being a Kennedy hater. My Dad was a very smart guy.

That took some courage. The Protestant vote and the female vote both went Republican, but the Catholic vote was at least 78% Democrat, the black vote was 68% Dem.

It is the problem that no one talks about, and everyone fights to conceal.

I just heard P.J. O’Rourke giving the completely false image of the Catholic vote, even saying that they voted against Obama and speaking of them as a firewall against liberalism and Democrats, even when the host said that “well of course he got some Catholic voters” P.J. said, well... “damn few”. (I’m paraphrasing those quotes)

Actually Obama won 54% of the Catholic vote, and they have only voted Republican 6 times in our history, and 4 of those was only to reelect an incumbent that was already in office.

I’m hoping that by peeling the cover off of the truth, that we can create a conservative Catholic reaction to look into this and fight what ever the cause is, we need to win a consistent 50% of the Catholic vote.

Everyone knows about California, and how it sucks because it is so left wing, gone to the dogs, write it off, etc. Look at this post below for an eye popping glimpse into 170 years of American political history.

I think Catholicism seems to equate caring for others to TAXING people to give to others at the government level.
