VANITY: My reply to an email from Wayne LaPierre
Vanity ^ | 10-5-2010 | My own sef

Wayne you sorry bastard,

I will never ever forgive you and Chris Cox for trying to save the Democrat's asses in this election.

Actually I figured you out when you endorsed Brad Carson over Tom Coburn in Oklahoma's Senate election a few years ago. At the same time you endorsed Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey.

I can't believe you now have the gall to try to sell me something.

Just bugger off.

Sincerely,

OKSooner, "Northeastern Oklahoma"

Sayin’ it good. There’s a chance you’re going to have to explain “bugger off” to him though... :)

Write them an explain your reasons for canceling. The NERA is so irrelevant now that we have Gun Owners of America.

You must write them to cancel any remaining time
on your current membership, and no, there
are no refunds (at least for yearly).

They will not cancel over the phone or internet.

You can contact the NRA via mail at the following address:
National Rifle Association of America
11250 Waples Mill Road
Fairfax, VA 22030

Good rant.

You should go to GunTalk.com and download the episode where Tom Gresham (host and outdoor TV guy) just rips LaPierre a new one over this and the NRA taking credit for the McDonald case, which actually was the 2nd Amendment Foundation. LaPierre comes off sounding like just another ruling-class bureau-drawer-a-crat.

I predict that by the 2012 Election, GOA (Gun Owners of America) will have a greater number of members than the NRA.

The NRA is NOT a PARTISAN organization.

NRA doesn’t stand for National Republican Association.

If a dem, as liberal and wrong on everything else as they might be just happens to be ‘pro-2nd’, they will endorse them. Especially if they are incumbents, or have established records. They don’t pay attention to which party a candidate is from.

I know it can be infuriating at times, but that’s how it is. They are a single issue organization.

A National Hand Gun Association would be even more defining.

Exactly. NRA is hardly the only lobby group that endorses incumbents if they have been supportive of its positions. Hell, I can remember when the Human Rights Campaign endorsed Al D'Amato on the same grounds.

My friend, I think you’re ignoring the fact that the Second Amendment doesn’t exist in a bubble. Candidates’ proclivities for bigger or smaller government weigh in on every decision they make and can very easily influence them to change their position.

Case in point: the so-called “pro-life” Democrats on Obamacare. When it became clear that their support was needed for passage, many of them cast their votes even though it was clear even then that it would usher in abortion.

Would it not be better to err on the side of caution and side with conservatives, who are less likely to vote for big government policies?

I TOTALLY agree with you. That’s why I said it can be infuriating to see the NRA endorse a dem, but the NRA doesn’t judge candidates the way I do.

They strictly look at previous records voting on firearms related legislation, and stated positions. (voting records carry more weight)

If someone as liberal as Nancy Pelosi had a strong voting record supporting firearms owners, the NRA would endorse her. If her opponent had a similar established voting record, they would endorse neither. That’s how they have always done it.

The NRA pays no attention to political parties or even ideology when choosing a candidate to endorse. In the long run, I believe that helps their credibility all around, as they are focused on one single issue and nothing else.
