New Drunk driving classication,(we are all guilty!)
Austin American Statesman ^ | 10/06/10 | Mike Ward

Posted on 10/06/2010 7:44:45 PM PDT by only the truth

A campaign to create a new category of driving while intoxicated is being promoted at the Capitol as one way to curb growing problems in Texas' system of punishing drunken drivers.

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo, among the supporters of the change, said the idea behind a new offense of "driving while ability impaired" — DWAI — would cover drivers whose blood-alcohol content is between 0.05 and 0.07

Seems they are not satisfied with the original premise of decreasing supposed drunk driving, and now are willing to lower the BAC just to keep up their statistics, revenue stream and persecution of citizenry.

Some people warned that this was the real premise all along and were laughed off as conspiracy nuts.

I’d like to know what the normal blood alcohol level is. I doubt that it gets to absolute zero. It is possible that we are getting into a range that will be triggered by a number of other chemicals, already in the blood stream.

Having recently been T-Boned by a woman who was texting while driving...

Wow, what was that like? If it does not bring back too bad of memories, can you describe it for us? Do you remember much of the impact and afterwards? What kind of car were you driving and how did it hold up?

Hope I am not being nosey but I always wondered. Thanks.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Acevedo migrated to the United States with his family in 1968 in search of freedom and the opportunities to be found in America. He grew up in California, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree, with departmental honors, in Public Administration from the University of La Verne.

Maybe he should move back to Cuba.

So everyone can be on gov’t food programs to have “healthy” diets. In reality, stand in line at the party approved store to get (hopefully) your bread ration.

I can understand where you’re coming from. However, one little potential wrinkle - what if a person who gets into an accident that some LEO misidentifies the cause as being from distracted driving due to a phone (the phone is found on the seat next to the driver and it is assumed that was the cause)? LEA’s are driven by revenue generating situations, right? How does the person who is wrongfully accused of this defend themselves? There must be some parameters for when someone can be charged with distracted driving due to a cell phone or other item. That’s my 2 cents anyway.

If true, this country is becoming fascist. And the cops were a bit draconian already.

I don’t know if it’s universally true, but my cheap li’l cell phone logs the time and date of incoming/outgoing calls and texts. Defense Exhibit A, your honor...

Not mentioned is MADD, which is HQ’d in DFW. They have become another liberal political organization that has grown beyond their original purpose and want to regulate our lives, via back door prohibition. I would not be surprised if they are involved behind the scenes.

It will decimate the hospitality industry, these paragraphs say it all - enough to scare any light drinker to just order delivery pizza instead of venturing out on the town and have a beer or two with a meal.

Acevedo agreed. He noted that one person may drive dangerously at the 0.08 level — the nationally accepted standard for being drunk — while others "may be at 0.05 or 0.06. It depends on the person."

"People sometimes focus on how many drinks they can have before they'll go to jail," Acevedo said. "It varies. A person may be intoxicated at 0.05, and you don't want them out driving."
