I don't know who first described politics as the ``art of compromise,'' but that maxim, to which I have always subscribed, seems woefully unfashionable today.
It's a tough time to be a moderate in the U.S. Senate. Sitting down with those on the opposite side of a debate, negotiating in good faith, attempting to reach a solution -- such actions are now vilified by the hard-liners on both sides of the aisle. Too few want to achieve real solutions; too many would rather draw sharp distinctions and score political points, even if that means neglecting the problems our country faces. A historian might say that at least we don't have one member caning another into unconsciousness, as when Rep. Preston Brooks of South Carolina flogged Sen. Charles Sumner of Massachusetts on the Senate floor in 1856. But in modern times, I have not seen the degree of bitter divisiveness and excessive partisanship now found in the Senate. The weapon of choice today is not a metal-topped cane but poisonous words.

Shes not a comfort girl, hell people up here in Maine know she’s a lesbian.
The Maine hags will pull a Jeffords/Specter ... just a matter of time. The great moderates in history book has a front and back cover with no pages in between. Floozy Collins is a SOCIALIST ENABLER.
Fortunately it’s only her throat she is exposing !
I can never understand these so-called “political middle” types whining like they do. The middle of the road is where most roadkill is. Maybe they should reflect of that a bit more.
This is not just vomit. . .this is her vomiting IN MY MOUTH! Now I’m vomiting. . .I read three paragraphs and I can’t read another word. . awful. .what an arrogant, ditzy, dingbat. . .
Susan doesn’t compromise; she gives in.
In their view, compromise is them giving up an Angus porterhouse for them, and nothing for us; instead ‘settling for’ a Kobe T-bone for them and a stale crust for us...and we pay the bill plus tip, and pick up their bar tab.
Compromise is surrendering to the enemy a little at a time.
Sen Susan Collins . . . a woman without courage or convictions. A wishy-washy “moderate” . . . a “compromiser” without strong beliefs.
And a USELESS “RINO” “STATIST” Quote Republican End Quote.
“Sitting down with those on the opposite side of a debate, negotiating in good faith, attempting to reach a solution..”
The woman has no social or polical moorings. She’s drifting between which left wing fascist or communist port she can drop anchor and celebrate diversity. She’s mentally ill.
BINGO!
Off with her head (metphorically speaking of course)!
The art of compromise for Susan means going along with socialists and statists. There are somethings that are not negotiable. Collins is a hallow woman in that she has no core beliefs except being reelected.
ReleaseTheHounds: “Compromise is not the answer!”
I disagree. Compromise is sometimes necessary. Senator Collins doesn’t seem to understand she’s supposed to be compromising toward achieving Republican (smaller, less intrusive) government solutions. In other words, she SHOULD be fighting to drastically reduce the scope of government in accordance with her OATH to uphold the US Constitution. If some compromise is necessary to reign in the EPA, slash the Dept. of Education, or free up markets, for example, I have no problem with that. That’s not what’s happening. When the Democrats propose far-reaching and extreme legislation that blatantly violates her PROMISE to follow the US Constitution, THEN she compromises. Sadly, she seems to think of herself in almost heroic terms for compromising when she should be moving the country to the right.
Senator Collins promised the following: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”
She’s as much responsible for following the US Constitution as the Supreme Court.
With all due respect, Senator Collins, one does NOT compromise with Evil and the Devil. If you cannot understand the difference between right and wrong, that some issues are either black or white and not some shade of gray, if you are governed by “situational” ethics — then, Senator, you need to be politically neutered in the short term, and either be retired or be replaced at the first opportunity.
