It has never been about "final days" with Mormons. It is about being prepared for emergencies. Natural disasters. Job loss. Perhaps political disasters too. Stuff happens. Being prepared is a prudent approach to handling chaos when it arrives. A 2 year supply takes time, money, space and active management. Few achieve the goal. Even for those who miss terribly, some attempt may be just enough to get by.

Not Mormon, but a country dweller and a farmer, the nearest store is 12 miles away. In bad years while we are hoping, praying and begging for financing there is usually a 3 month gap with no money comming in, in 2008 it was 6 months. I have always been prepared and we have always eaten well.

Once during a particularly busy time, my DIL and grandaughter came in and my granddaughter said “Grandma, we don’t have any groceries and we were too tired to go shopping so I told Mom, ‘Let’s just go shopping at Grandma’s.’”

If you are always prepared you just buy when things are on sale and save a lot of money. I pay full price for very few things.
