I believe the Lord bless who he wills, but he still expects us to have a spare tire in our truck when we take a long car trip.

Not Mormon, but a country dweller and a farmer, the nearest store is 12 miles away. In bad years while we are hoping, praying and begging for financing there is usually a 3 month gap with no money comming in, in 2008 it was 6 months. I have always been prepared and we have always eaten well.

Once during a particularly busy time, my DIL and grandaughter came in and my granddaughter said “Grandma, we don’t have any groceries and we were too tired to go shopping so I told Mom, ‘Let’s just go shopping at Grandma’s.’”

If you are always prepared you just buy when things are on sale and save a lot of money. I pay full price for very few things.

That’s what my husband says and we’ve all eaten plenty of weevils but I’d sure rather not.

Sugar is fine it will last forever and you don’t have to freeze it, if it gets hard you just have to dissolve it. Honey is the same, if it hardens just heat it.

The best way to get rid of the weevils is to get an airtight bucket, put your food in it and add dry ice. It will fumigate your food without hurting you.

If you are good friends with a Mormon, or even if you aren’t they usually have a common place with a dry canner and they will let you purchase the supplies and use their canner if you ask.

You can find oxygen absorbers online.

A SHTF sociatal collapse scenario although possible may be a remote probability. But a hurricane, tornado, power failure, flood or other natural disaster is not.

Anyone who doubts the wisdom of making basic preparations for emergency scenarios should watch four or five hours of Katrina news re-runs showing humongous herds of people too reliant on government or too stupid to even fill an empty bottle or jar with drinking water for themselves and their kids.

Now is the time to decide if you want you and your family to be thrown in the middle of a Katrina style mob or if you want to control your own destiny.

The Costco “kits” and other commercial offerings aren’t exactly what knowledgeable Preppers would recommend but they are a good start for people who want to do something. Making the kits available and bringing them to the attention of shoppers will help develop some awareness and get people thinking about taking some responsibility for their own well being.

Good planning. I live in the Pocatello area. There is a history of severe snow storms, so we plan on having to handle a month or more without access to a store. The longest in the area went 3 1/2 weeks and buried 18-wheel trucks completely.

I keep plenty of wood on hand for the purpose of keeping the house heated. It can also serve as fuel for cooking. Subzero temps in early December are common.

and I’m glad to see you are prepoared to share with the poor, the needy, the sinner, the prostitute, the polygamist, the homosexual...

Thats commendable for when that day comes...

But what are you doing now ???

Did you share your food with a drug addict today ???

Did you hug a person with AIDS today ???

God loves the drunks and the homosexuals just as much as He loves you ...

Thanks for the link. Reading the article reminded me that if you need daily medication, it would be wise to renew as soon as the drug plan allows and store up a stash .

You ask me what I dd today to service? And what part of the scripture are you following by asking that question?

Its’ been my expweiwnce that those who ask about deeds have done little themselves or have done for the wrong reason.

You may wish to study wah the scripture has to say about pride.

But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. James 2:18

I took this statement to mean that you were boasting (pride) that you planned to feed your neighbors, the hungry...

Are you now saying that you wont do anything for the starving others ???

You plan to be greedy and say you wont share your bread ???

Then it would appear that those you accused of

“those who ask about deeds have done little themselves or have done for the wrong reason.”

are the very ones who have done MORE than you yourself...

Even that little they gave or will give to others (the least of these) is a lot to God...

Now what was it you said you would do ???

Oh thats right...

Never mind...

BTW how can there ever be a “wrong reason” for feeding the hungry” ???

I plan to take care of my family, as directed.

As for the hungry I trust that GOD will feed them if they have faith.

Yep, and it’s not a bad idea to store it vacuum-sealed in the fridge - which will probably extend the shelf life even more.
