Dropped the NRA membership.
To: scooby321
Did you let them know why? That’s key - let them know why you dropped them.

So did I, but they refused to give me a refund, even a pro-rated refund from my last dues renewal payment. So, since my husband likes the American Hunter magazine, I told them to just send the magazine, no other solicitations and no renewal notice when that time comes. I told them they sickened me and not to contact us in any way ever again.

I’ve been a member for over 20 years now and when I called them they first said “we aren’t supporting Harry Reid”. I’ve heard otherwise on FR but I’ll give them a pass until I find out the facts.
I then brought up that they are supporting a lot of Dems who aren’t really gun supporters, like Chet Culver in Iowa. They said they were endorsing him. I asked how they could do that and that he, along with their help, passed a watered down permit law that could have been better. They gave me a bunch of BS about the NRA being a one issue group and that is how they do things.
I’m really debating if I will keep my membership and renew in Feb, or if I will drop them and let the chips fall where they may. Their answers were not satisfying at all and in many cases they were outright BS.

Dropped mine also awhile back for GOA.
To: Patriotic1
Well, the days of 'non-partisanship' are long gone.
The Democrat Party is anti-Freedom and any support of them is shortsighted and foolish.
The NRA is going to be hardpressed to find replacements for all the conservatives they have lost.

These “pro-gun” Democrats sound good and vote right so long as their vote is not needed to actually pass a bill. When a bill that would take a knife to the 2nd amendment needs a couple of their votes to get passed that couple of congressmen will be assigned to vote for it and will. Their pro-gun rhetoric has no legislative effect whatever. The NRA is taking a poke at gun rights under the cover of being ecumenical in its support of allegedly pro-gun Democrats.

The NRA is “single issue” but very superficial in its analysis. Pro-gun Democrats cease to be pro-gun when their votes are needed to actually pass an anti-gun bill.

They also refuse to recognize that any vote for a rat is a vote for an anti-2A agenda/platform.

Pro-gun Democrats cease to be pro-gun when their votes are needed to actually pass an anti-gun bill. Can you give specific examples? I have seen, at the state level in Texas, Oklahoma, and North Carolina, consistently pro-gun Democrat legislators.

“Is there a serious alternative to the NRA?”
Sure, the SAF (Second Amendment Foundation). They actually file lawsuits and are in successful in winning 2nd Amendment cases while NRA execs rake in million dollar salaries and hobnob with Sen. Harry Reid.
To: rrrod
I am a 30 year member, and I have to say that the NRA is stupid. Endorsing these these guys is a vote for Nancy Pelosi. The democrat party cannot be trusted.

“The NRA is a pro-gun organization”
Completely false. The NRA has supported every gun control legislation since it’s inception.1
The NRA recently partnered with Sen. Schumer (D-NY) and the Brady Gang on the Veterans Disbarrment Act.
Footnote: 1: “The National Rifle Association has been in support of workable, enforceable gun control legislation since its very inception in 1871.” ~ NRA Executive Vice President Franklin L. Orth

State level Democrats are not the same animals as Congressional Democrats. When they aspire to national office they find out they have to play ball with the Party. There are state level Democrats I would vote for herebut alas, not in my district and the one running here is a scuzz. I do look for Democrats to vote for and occasionally find one. I am a registered Democrat, after all.

Very true. While there is considerable whining about the NRA being bi-partisan, particularly right here on FR, where there tends to be those who are never going to be pleased until they, themselves are in office, We have made great headway in the 2A issues and the NRA has been right at the forefront of it.Right here in Texas,in the last decade or so, we have gained CCW,and, just a few years ago, the law was changed to allow the carry of a loaded weapon in your automobile without a permit. Now there are going to be those here who say that was our right anyway. Maybe so, but I bet they weren't arrested before the the law was changed, either.
There is always going to be two, or more political parties in this country, folks. The fact that the NRA is ABLE to endorse some dems shows that second amendment issues have made big strides forward in most areas. The NRA has endorsed Chet Edwards in my district, but I'm not going to be voting for Chet. I'd be far more aggravated with the NRA if they endorsed Bloomberg ,even though he was a Republican. The NRA needs some people on their side on both sides of the aisle, and it doesn't take much thought to see why. That is the way to keep anti-gun legislation suppressed no matter who is in power.
All those that have cancelled their memberships to the NRA, and/or have stopped donating to them ought to re-think the NRA’s purpose. The GOA and SAF are fine, I support both of those organizations, but they are a non issue to the media and most politicians, where the NRA carries the respect of both parties, save for a few rabid dogs like Schumer, Lautenberg, Bloomberg, etc.

This is all bull$hit. If Harry Reid were truly “pro-gun” he would vote against the single largest threat to gun owners in this country. Namely, the Supreme Court nominees that President Obama has sent to the Senate. Both are rabid anti-gun leftists. If Obama can get just one more appointment to the Court, the 2nd amendment will be history. Then all of the “pro-gun” Democrats can say boo-hoo there's nothing they can do about a judgment from the SCOTUS.
