Maureen Dowd: Playing All the Angles
New York Times ^ | 10/17/2010 | Maureen Dowd

Posted on 10/17/2010 5:45:19 AM PDT by safetysign

As I sat above the Hoover Dam under the broiling sun, I was getting jittery.

There was Gov. Jan Brewer of Arizona, speaking at the dedication of a bridge linking Arizona and Nevada 890 feet above the Colorado River.

As the politicians droned on and my Irish skin turned toasty brown, I worried that Governor Brewer might make a citizen’s arrest and I would have to run for my life across the desert. She has, after all, declared open season on anyone with a suspicious skin tone in her state.

We are in the era of Republican Mean Girls, grown-up versions of those teenage tormentors who would steal your boyfriend, spray-paint your locker and, just for good measure, spread rumors that you were pregnant.

These women — Jan, Meg, Carly, Sharron, Linda, Michele, Queen Bee Sarah and sweet wannabe Christine — have co-opted and ratcheted up the disgust with the status quo that originally buoyed Barack Obama. Whether they’re mistreating the help or belittling the president’s manhood, making snide comments about a rival’s hair or ripping an opponent for spending money on a men’s fashion show, the Mean Girls have replaced Hope with Spite and Cool with Cold. They are the ideal nihilistic cheerleaders for an angry electorate.

I think Maureen just confessed that her High School experience is why she is so bitter.

Is this dried up bitter old maid still relevant?

That question assumes that she was relevant. I have seen no evidence of that.

As Maureen is sitting in the sun getting brown it isn’t the sun doing it.
She is just full of that brown stinky stuff.

Doud needs to get out of New York and hanging with the liberal gliterrati an see how real Americans in the heartland of this country live and work. She is a typical snide liberal who thinks the great unwashed are too stupid to tie their shoes without help from the government. I would love to see Doud interviewing Congressional candidate Kriti Noem (R-SD) on horseback. Trouble is from the back it would be hard to tell which was the horse.

Slamming free cocktails all night at the craps tables will do that. You should really get out of the sun and rehydrate, Maureen. All that hard drinking's tough on an old broad.

Conservative women bad, liberal women good, blah blah blah, vitriol dribble ad nauseum. I’m jealous Angle has a 44 magnum and my wife only has a 380 Bersa. I guess that makes her a former teen age female terror too? Nah, she would have been on the receiving end of the pranks.

“She has, after all, declared open season on anyone with a suspicious skin tone in her state.”

This of course is the reporter/hack journalist who is well known to hyperbole, claiming that during State of the Union address, someone from the republican side shouted, “You lie, Boy!”

The liberals have their Maureen Dowd, we have our Peggy Noonan. Both so out of touch, I doubt if anyone reads more than the first two or three lines of what they write.

“If she saw me, she might take away my health insurance and spray-paint my locker. “

What the h*ll does that mean? Any eighth grader can write better than she can.

Hey, excuse me, you forgot a few other names...

Laura
Ann
Michelle
Megan

The list goes on and on, but the bottom line is, conservative women are much more attractive, much happier and much younger in spirit than the likes of you.

From the comments;
“You nailed it in a cultural metaphor that leaves one laughing but chagrined at what has overtaken the political season. These women are an affront to all that we have endured over the years in order to gain the equal footing so necessary to our place in American society. For those of use raised up during the heyday of Steinem, Friedan, Shulamith Firestone, just to name a few of the those brainy, committed women dating back at least until one of my personal heroes, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the emergence of this group of women — so aptly termed ‘mean girls’— is demoralizing and embarrassing. Ill-informed, sometimes ridiculous in their positions, they undermine the important issues of the day with their absurdist statements and platforms that defy common sense in many cases. Whether they are elected or not, they have given new voice to the very behaviors that have been regularly accepted in men, but which only serve to degrade the only very recent elevated footing achieved by women. It is as though a group of old Barbie doll throw-backs has recently been uncovered and then, primed and primped for primetime. Unfortunately, the political circus is what gets exported around, not only in the U.S., but also abroad, furthering to undercut gains women might be making in countries where they are not given the same status — even in ‘developed’ countries like Italy where women are still second-class citizens. It makes me wonder if women ruled the world, would it really be a different place — more just, more humane, more balanced. I don’t think there are enough U.S. women Supreme Court justices or Elizabeth Warrens around to quell this vacuous stridency fueled by big money and several of the vixens of Fox “News.”’

The words Oyster P*ssy and Vaginosis comes to my mind for some reason whenever I see this woman’s picture. Sorry, but had to get that off my chest.

More from the comments at the link;

“The politicians like Bernie Sanders, Russ Feingold, Allan Grayson and one or two others who really do have a grasp of the real challenges facing many Americans invariably get marginalized and insulted by the bullish frat girls and boys who never left high school even though they graduated years ago. No wonder the country is in such an unholy mess.”

And another comment;

“The T party group operates from hate and misinformation. Their masters at corporate America manage them through Faux news. And the saddest thing is that they will vote against their own interest.”

As I sat above the Hoover Dam under the broiling sun, reading the newspaper, I was getting jittery.

There was Maureen Dowd of the New York Times, writing again about things that she understood only dimly, pontificating about a real world filled with decent and thoughtful people that was strange and terrifying to her, training her cliched and infantile writing 'skills' on people who had actual talent and accomplishments and vision.

As I read through her latest barrage of half truths, innuendo and DNC talking points, I worried that an increasingly unhinged Dowd was going to have a nervous breakdown right there in the middle of the page. Dowd was clearly alarmed by the prospect of a dozen smart and attractive female Republican candidates for high office seducing the voters with their tantalizing platforms based on Truth, Justice and The American Way.

"How could her Socialist puppet masters possibly withstand such an onslaught of electoral Shock and Awe", was the question that caused her feeble hands to tremble as they typed out every vituperous word that she could possibly dig out from the dank cesspool of her brutish and unthinking mind, tormented as it were by the suspicions and petty jealousies and venoms that had dogged her very existence for so many unproductive years of carrying the water for the Dark Force.
