Fox News poll shows (Republican) Raese edging (Democrat) Manchin by 3

After a bad couple of weeks, Republicans worried that Joe Manchin might have overtaken John Raese in the race to replace the late Robert Byrd in the US Senate. A new Fox News poll shows that Manchin made up ground on Raese, but the Republican still holds a narrow lead over the Democrat in West Virginia. Barack Obama’s agenda worries voters more than a casting call for a political ad, apparently:

Republican John Raese still leads Democrat Joe Manchin in West Virginia’s rough and rowdy Senate race despite a pair of controversial television ads, according to the latest Fox News state poll. Raese’s lead over Manchin shrank two points from Oct. 2, but his 48 percent to 45 percent lead over the popular second-term governor is still cause for concern among Democrats.

Raese’s lead comes after a bruising two weeks in which an ad agency hired by the National Republican Senatorial Committee got busted looking for “hicky” actors to play parts in an anti-Manchin ad and Manchin produced an ad in which he shot a hole through a copy of President Obama’s global warming legislation with a deer rifle.

The poll of likely voters shows why Manchin might be moved to take more shots at the Obama agenda. Obama’s job approval in the state dropped two points to 27 percent. Sixty two percent of voters said that Obama’s polices had hurt the state’s economy – up two points from Oct. 2 — and 51 percent thought the president’s agenda had hurt their personal finances.

Does anyone have a feel on this race?

Nothing other than this, along with Nevada, are the two true “toss ups” of this election.

Colorado and Illinois are now tossups also.

Let’s hope Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are not added soon... some bad news on Senate polling today.

Raese’s gonna win.

West Virginia has been hit hard, HARD- by Obama’s energy plan. Coal mines shut down, permits denied, Mountaintop permits denied....

Manchin stood by, almost queitly, if not endorsing what was happening.

Manchin is part of the problem. The Obama, Pelosi and Reid problem.

Instead of wasting money in Delaware, we need to be pouring resources into West Virginia and Nevada. Raese is a good Conservative, and if he wins, will likely be West Virginia Senator for a LONG time.

The stupid NRSC did some damage. Raese hasn’t pointed out that he was not responsible for that ad. Manchin is portraying it as a Raese sponsored ad.

The PPP poll of Pennsylvania was laughable. They had a more Democrat sample than both 2006 and 2008. So don’t worry about Pennsylvania yet.

This one, Nevada and Alaska are giving me heartburn.

The latest Ras just shows Miller flat imploding.

That one is really concerning me because the Dem even has jumped quite a bit.

This is nice since it’s a fairly stable poll. Also, I have a feeling we will pull it out in WV and Alaska still (though that may mean Murk unfortunately). But, it is still two weeks out.

Nobody seriously expected Toomey to win by 10. It has tightened enough that a high turnout in Philly can put Sestak over the top.

Manchin is the de facto incumbent, and continues to trail. It is the Democrats who should be worried here.

This is a once in a generation type of opportunity though. If he wins, Manchin will likely be able to entrench himself just like Byrd and Rockefeller.

Philly will be the problem area in PA. As usual. Pittsburgh? Unions will be there for Onorato, but I’m not sure about the people in general. He got squat done in Pittsburgh.

So far, the only evidence the PA race has “tightened” is a single poll from the Daily Kos pollster.

Let’s all thank the NRA for helping Manchin make up that ground with that great new ad proudly touting his NRA endorsement. Boy, those folks at the NRA sure are clever. When is the last time that a Dem senator has voted against a Dem president’s SCOTUS nominee? How many think that 0bama’s next SCOTUS nominee will be pro 2A? I guess when the NRA’s guy wins, we will all find out.

The NRA is not a conservative or pro-Constitutional organization (except for the 2A). The NRA thinks that it can make inroads with progressive Democrats. But the reality is that progressive Democrats are making inroads in the NRA. All conservatives should drop out of the NRA.

"...we need to be pouring resources into West Virginia and Nevada..."

I sent $51.00 to Raese (yes $51.00) in North Carolina and $150.00 to Angle in Nevada.

Colorado and Illinois are now tossups also.

When weren't they tossups?

Rasmussen (and RCP) has had these two races within margin all summer. Along with NV, WA, CA, and WV.

The "concerns" are starting to get really annoying. Have more faith. Any poll you see, add 3-4 point for enthusiasm on our side

Sabato tweeted a few days ago that he was in WV and the Anti-Obama sentiment there is rabid. His words were that the Senate race is really “Obama” against “Nobama”. It has little to do with the voters’ views of the real candidates.

“The latest Ras just shows Miller flat imploding.”

I don’t beleive it for a second. How many voters are actually going to “write-in” the traitor b*tch’s name?

I sent $50 to Miller also. He leads in the latest polls.
