Anthony Weiner (RAT-NY) seeks $692 Social Security hike (by using his own loot?)

Weiner seeks $692 Social Security hike
by Lisa A. Fraser, Chronicle Contributor
10/21/2010

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn and Queens) last Friday announced a new plan calling for an emergency 5 percent cost of living adjustment for Social Security recipients.

His effort comes on the heels of the Social Security Administration’s announcement that benefits will remain flat for a second year in a row due to low inflation.

Weiner announced the proposal during a visit to the Queens Community House in Forest Hills. Joined by City Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz (D-Forest Hills), he talked briefly with the seniors there, assuring them that their concerns are also his.

“With the bad news today that there’s going to be another zero year of COLAs, as soon as we get back to Washington, we’re going to be voting on giving you emergency amounts of money to handle social security cost of living,” said the congressman, who is running for re-election against Republican challenger Bob Turner, a retired TV executive.

Next month, after the election but before a new Congress convenes, members will vote to provide another round of emergency $250 checks to recipients in lieu of a COLA. But Weiner says a 5 percent hike is more adequate. That would provide an estimated additional $692 for the average senior over one year, raising monthly benefits about $58, from $1,153 to $1,211.

2 years without a COLA for seniors based on the bogus inflation numbers cooked up by the Democratic party in control of the numbers. The purpose of cooking the numbers is in large part specifically to reduce COLA for seniors (and to make GDP “growth” look better). Now they want to pay the money anyway, after cooking the numbers. Libs are ridiculous. How about we actually reform Social Security and make it fair? Say, stop paying it to rich people, let young people choose to opt out, and give poor Seniors a real COLA based on their typical expenses . . .

The article makes no mention of how this will be paid for. Prepare for billions more in debt.

The $250 that the Democrats are going to vote for is bribe money, pure and simple. However, anyone who shops for groceries knows that the cost of living has gone up...as has the cost of heating a home. These are costs on goods necessary for survival. How the CFI can show there in no change is a mystery. Instead of bribing seniors with the promise of $250, Congress should evaluate how the CFI is computed and adjust the calculation to give more weight to the basic, non-optional goods and services seniors require.

Weiner is believed to be in some trouble in his congressional race. (His marriage to the Saudi-born former Hillary Clinton aide and reputed lover, Huma Abedin, hasn't helped.) What better way for a lefty to improve his chances than to promise for a larger government entitlement? Does anyone care who is going to pay for it?

he changed his name to Savage Weiner?

That could be a trademark or copyright issue.

I think there is already a Savage Weiner on some obscure talk radio network.

After looking at the little queer, I have decided that if he wasn’t “humiliated as a child”, he should’a been.
