MUST SEE: Krauthammer Slams NPR's Hypocrisy Over Williams And Totenberg
RealClearPolitics ^ | october 22, 2010 | RealClearPolitics

FOX News: "I don't understand the inconsistency here," Dr. Charles Krauthammer said on PBS's "Inside Washington" Friday night. Another guest on the panel was NPR's Nina Totenberg, whom Krauthammer targeted for her consistent liberal bias.

"Why is it okay for Nina to express opinions as she has tartly, sharply, unashamedly and openly? And she's an honored correspondent there; in fact, they mention your status here on ["Inside Washington"] in your biography at NPR. And Juan, because he expresses his opinions, he gets canned from NPR," Dr. Krauthammer said.

Totenberg said she's been put in an "awkward position" with the uproar and offered her explanation of why Williams was singled out for dismissal. "In the modern journalistic world, where people are asked to give opinions all the time whether you're a regular on a show like this or not, if you cover a story you may be asked to appear on a television show and talk about it. I think it's a very very difficult line to draw. And NPR tries to draw it, in my view, using rules that don't exist anymore."

"I have personal opinions that I will not share with you," NPR's Nina Totenberg said, who has not been afraid to share her opinions before. Juan's firing was not "popular on the floor" at NPR.

Please don't hold back, Karliner - tell us how you really feel...

That said, one of the reason's the treatment of Juan is painful is because it's how liberals treat us - the double standard, lies, painting with a broad brush... etc.

I'm proud of my fellow conservatives for standing with Juan - standing with him against liberal hate tactics... and I'm proud of the few (very few) liberals who also saw the underlying truth and showed some backbone ( Bob Beckel etc)

De-fund NPR NOW.

She is a coward. Sat there with her arms crossed and let the other two try to come to her defense, which there is none. Charles is back on my love list.

Good point about the local stations, which should be prohibiting from remitting federal money to NPR.

As I understand it, the parent of NPR and PBS is The Corporation For Public Broadcasting. CPB gets about a half-$Billion from the feds. They then dole it out to NPR, PBS AND the member stations. The member stations then use the money to buy content from NPR.

So therefore NPR has two streams of money from the feds - direct from CPB and indirect laundered money from the member stations. I read an estimate that NPR gets 70% of their money directly and indirectly from the feds, 30% from contributions.

Would it be too hard for somebody to pull the audio from this clip, where Totenberg talks about Jesse Helms’ grandkids getting AIDS?

NPR’s Financials 2009 Total Revenue $153,000,000!! $62,000.000 plus from station programming fees.

Between direct government funding and indirect (station fees from CPB-supported stations, various grants by various agencies) government support seems to make up more than half of NPR's revenue stream. If Congress defunds NPR and CPB, NPR goes away like Air America. Popular shows like Sesame Street will continue to be made since people will actually pay for them, but Lefty propaganda shows will have no financial support.

If NPR is not completely defunded at the federal level, including its indirect federal revenues that flow through member stations, in effect you and I will be funding the platform used by those 100 Soros funded (and probably Soros approved) “reporters.”

It’s complicated. And their book keeping would make ENRON accounting look good. Pass thrus and give backs via Interlocking companies.

However let me give a back of the envelope calculation. Revenue for “Public Broadcasting” is about $2.85B (That’s in Billions!). 40% of all the revenue is TAX based or about $1.1 billion. Of that “public radio” by formula gets 25% (of 89%). About $250 million goes to radio system which includes Pacificia and PRI.

You see they don’t want you to really know, but here is the backup.

PBS needs a house cleaning, also, IMO.

Try watching all those cartoon for 7+ hours each day & then tell me that they aren’t doing social engineering with the crap those cartoons tell your kids.

Juan Williams is a liberal who has now been held to the standard that liberals apply to everyone else. Had it been Beck or Rush or you or me on a show expressing our fears about young black men on a subway or on a street corner late at night; Williams and his NPR ilk would have been first in line calling us racist. The press' reaction is typically predictable now that one of their own has been smitten by political correctness.

While I personally disagree with this type of censorship and agree that anyone should be free to express their opinion without fear of retribution, I do take some pleasure in watching the media turn themselves inside-out over this.

ha, just words; but it's irritating as the dickens to see these PC folks firing and playing with words. Granted Juan Williams was a libby and I didn't like his spittle most the time but he was a rare libby that was at least nice in his talking points. I don't have any idea how to combat the PC crowd. Who do we vote out? Do we use the words"Islamic terrorist" or muslim terrorist" and just rub it in? Is there some people we can vote out? I think the more the PC crowd eats its own and slams others for they're "more tolerant" BS it'll finally fall by the wayside; at least I'm hoping so because I'm fed up( as you can read) with the danged idiots, excuse me, developmentally disabled( no offense to them)jerkwad pricks that are trying to enforce some sort of westernized propaganda speak instituted by muzzies to drive wedges between their enemies, namely America and Israel and Europe and any other country they haven't turned into dhimmis yet. Enough blather form me.

That's a slam? The right is impotent and cowardly. Far, far, beneath status of patriots. Makes me puke.

This is all missing the point. The problem in NPR’s eyes wasn’t that Juan ,or Nina, expressed their opinions. It was the particular opinion he expressed.

NPR took Juan’s statement as racial or religious bias. The problem with NPR is not that the fired someone for expressing such a bias. The problem is that they interpreted a straightforward statement that reflects the real world AS bias.

All this talk about opinions and free speech is distracting from what matters here.

Good Lord! All Totenberg and the Politico hack could come upwith was some mumbled nonsense about the “changing nature of journalism”. They couldn’t even look Krauthammer in the eye and answer his questions....

Life is not without it’s own sense of irony, it would seem...
You know, on the one hand, I could care less what happened to Juan Williams, as he is basically a leftard; he got a taste of his own medicine as I see it. basically - It’s not so pleasent when it happens to you, but when you’re on the advocating end of it, well, hey then, it’s just ducky, Juan...

Krauthammer took the lib hag to task and you could see the others squirming - that just DOESN’T happen in their safe, secure, sycophantic little world. Why, the nerve of someone actually exposing them...!!!

And as for Juan - I say use the situation for all it’s worth, pointing out the obvious hypocrisy wherever feasible; but for him, I could care less. Actually, I had to laugh about it when I heard it.
