6 Brazen Advocates of Slut Culture on the Pseudo-Feminist Left
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | October 24, 2010 | Cassy Fiano

Sluthood wasn't always considered a virtue. Most normal, rational people look at sleeping around as something sad and wrong. It's not healthy, physically or mentally, it can be damaging to a young girl's reputation, and it can also be incredibly dangerous. Women that sleep around oftentimes end up feeling used and regret their choices when they get older and decide to settle down. Other women end up contracting STDs, which may or may not be treatable. For these reasons and more, being a slut is understandably looked down upon -- it can be genuinely harmful. Today's pseudo-feminists, however, have turned that common sense logic on its head.

Sluthood is now, unbelievably, looked at in their eyes as healthy and empowering. Sleeping with random men every night is not sleeping around, it's "embracing your sexuality." This attitude has trickled down into our everyday culture, and it's had an effect on young girls. Almost two-thirds of teenagers who do have sex end up wishing they hadn't. Teens who have sex early are more likely to be depressed or suicidal. And while femisogynists act as if birth control and condoms makes sex absolutely risk-free, the truth is not quite as clear. The emotional consequences are clear; physically, the truth is simply that condoms are not foolproof. Consider that 1 in 4 teenage girls now have an STD. And pregnancy can only reliably be prevented through abstinence, something teenage girls need to know, considering that teenage mothers are significantly more likely to live in poverty and rely on welfare.

Well...

What the article says is true, I think, as far as it goes.

What is missing is the impact on the lives and choices of other women, women who are trying to plot a more cautious and responsible course.

Left out. Immature. Undesirable. Those are the feelings that go along with realizing that the men you are interested in have available partners (casual connections, hookups) that you can’t compete with.

You can’t compete because you are not “above average” in the sex/dating marketplace. You are a little less than “pretty”, a little less than “trim”, a little less than “confident.”

For every hurt, desperate or infected slut trying to recover their sense of mastery of the mating game after yet another disappointing connection, there is a sister (in the feminist sense) trying to find a stable partner in a world where the qualities of stability are routinely devalued.

For the less successfully aggressive woman, partner stability is everything. They are not able or strong enought to try and discard partners. They want a “life number” of “ONE”. One partner. Forever. With security as part of the loving bond.

How can they find a partner like that with men who will have to choose them over more immediately rewarding partners? They aren’t the most attractive and they aren’t easily available. That’s a tough competitive position for a woman who isn’t that confident to start with.

Colleges are full of young women who hope that they will be able to put a disappointing high school dating career behind them. They hope to find young men who will appreciate their more intelligent, responsible and supportive personalities. They find instead a competition with attractive, confident and available sluts who are willing to pursue sexual opportunities with lots of guys, guys that otherwise might be prospects for late blooming, but ready and rewarding young women.

The sluts are depressed because their track is so physically and emotionally risky. (The author of the piece didn’t even mention the risk of being hit. She must hang around a really nice set of men. Of course many sluts aren’t so lucky.) Their sisters are depressed because they are competing in a game with the deck stacked against them.

This is empowerment?

Good point. I notice that all kinds of catalogues that wend their way into my mailbox (most unbidden!!) have those repulsive sex “toys” for women in them. Even places like the Vermot Country Store! I called them and complained and said I didn’t want their catalogues any more; they said they could send me one that didn’t contain those items. They didn’t understand I didn’t want to support a company that sells that stuff at all!

Lust is equally distributed among the sexes. Both have the ability to sink to lower than animal level.

“Musci videos like this”

That was so disgusting that it actually made me angry.

I couldn’t believe that when I saw a copy of my mom’s Vermont Country Store catalog... I thought the Goodies and the Moxie was risque enough as it was!

You know how it is with catalogs - your name gets sold and re-sold, so I’ve gotten lots of catalogs from places not only that I’ve never ordered from, but never even heard of!

So far Gaiam (some artsy yoga eco-nut outfit) sells sex toys, Dr. Leonard’s (stuff for old people) sells sex toys, now the Vermont Country Store for crying out loud sells sex toys. And some others whose names I can’t remember. At least The Company Store (comforters and sheets) doesn’t sell them yet! Nor does True Value hardware.

What’s next? Lehman’s, with non-electric wind-up ones made by the Amish!???!?

You’d think people die from celibacy or something, like starving to death.

I just know that I'm not attending any more of my school's dances. I didn't volunteer to chaperone -- I just showed up to be there so my students could see me involved (and maybe the new principal might see I'm involved ... but I digress).

Anyway, I was more than a little disgusted not just be the girls' attire, most of whom I had to keep my distance from just for saying hello, but sincerely, the girls were dancing like they were bent over the hoods of cars and the boys were dancing right up behind them. I left early.

I have had VT country store catalog for over forty years in my home. I was shocked to find the sex toys in the catalog. I was appalled and I called.

Precisely my thoughts. Are men who have sexual affairs outside of marriage also “sluts”? Or is this just a woman-bashing thread?

Actually, the use of the word slut in this article is demeaning. Thankfully, I read enough here on the thread and didn’t give their website a click.

The percentage appears to be less than for men, But only if you take a quick and very shallow glance. If you look at porn deeper, you find that women more often lust after three dimensional pornography - there are fare more vibrators and dildos sold reducing men to an idolatrous representation than there are blow up dolls or artificial vaginas.

What about day time soaps and romance novels? This form of "pornography" has been widely used for decades.

“Actually, the use of the word slut in this article is demeaning.”

I can’t begin to express how much it hacks me off to see crap like you wrote here on FR.

A slut is a slut. She has demeaned herself by her own behavior. Those who describe her accurately are guilty of no offense.

It is not a virtue to be obdurate in the face of reason.

Most men in my world take responsibility for what they do. Articles like this make women look ugly and by implication say that all me are irresponsible and are not accountable for their actions.

Both are total BS.

LOL... I am sure the granola chicks would be the first one's to complain that these "renewable, off-the-grid, sustainable" vibrators not only don't provide 30,000 vibrations per second, but they have to wind them up 4 times in one "session", the windup mechanism rusts up when used in the shower, and the dong gives splinters.

:P

Let's see, after 40 years of women demeaning and belittling men I suppose men could decide to push back.

Most women don’t do other women, they have sex with men. No where in all of these posts do I see where men are held responsible for their part in this.

I'm a man, and I agree with you. It takes two to tango, and the man is just as responsible as the woman is. One of my best friends could be considered a male slut - he's slept with more women than I can count.

I used to like that song, but as of late I’ve been simply getting angry that celebrites are actually going this far. To me it seems almost evil in a way.

We have names for men who sleep around. Look at the comments about George Clooney and his slutting around. It gets pathetic in the same way it does for women when they get older.
