I have a friend who has gamma globulin deficiency, which means his lungs can't fight infections. He was born with it. Almost every month he has to go through a clerk to see what kind of treatment he will get; in the hospital? the O.R. prep room? the doctor's office? at home using a below the skin pump? at home by I.V. administered by a home care nurse? He never knows. Not getting the treatment is death, and he lives like this month to month. Actually, it's more like every three weeks.
