Skip to comments.Dem Candidate to Veteran: Military Service Isn't Public Service

Twenty-four years in the military doesn't count as public service, at least according to Virginia Democratic Congressman Jim Moran.
In a video that's gone viral online, Moran is heard telling a Democratic gathering earlier this month that his opponent, Republican Patrick Murray, is just another unqualified GOP candidate.
"What [Republicans] do is find candidates, usually stealth candidates, that haven't been in office, haven't served or performed in any kind of public service," Moran said. "My opponent is typical, frankly."
The trouble is, Murray is a retired Army colonel with 24 years of service--including combat in Iraq. The idea that such an extensive military record doesn't qualify as "public service" has left a sour taste in Murray's mouth.

Ads, every hour of every day between now and the election. Over and over and over again.
Can’t say what I feel, because I would be banned! (and possibly arrested!)
I hope that the old RINO John Warner speaks up about this.
Incidentally, his opponent is an Iraq War veteran. Here’s his site:
At the very least you would be fired by NPR.
He needs to be run into the dirt.....
Jim Moran can kiss our asses.Better people than him have died so he can express his lame opinions, too bad he can’t come up something more intelligent to say.
So, under this reasoning, Frosh Senator Barack Obama is qualified and Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower isn’t.
No one here would make it through the first interview, much less ever work for those left wing loons.
You little people are so cute when you’re mad and uppity.
Now pay your taxes, our government is broke. :)
-your friends on the American Left.
Fine, then we don't really need "public service."
Moran is a MORON.
Moran has done his job - he has brought back the pork to his district. It really is as simple as that. Self interest and greed rule. End of story.
Any time spent as a Democrat politician is a public disservice.
As far as I’m concerned, until the Senator has performed his military service, nothing in his experience QUALIFIES for public service. Don’t pass Go, return to sender, address unknown, not a true American citizen with any virtue.
Of course only those who have been elected and then entitled to to pissing away our tax dollars are public servants. You betcha.
He has a really ruddy complexion like a serious drunk. I wonder if he is?
Seems to me that public service is defined as having a job that entails getting a check from a government entity. As such, military service is very clearly a public service.
Maybe Moran defines public service as elected offices only. I am quite sure the government union workers would disagree.
The only other option is that he has such disdain for the military that in his eyes, they do not count as much as gov’t bureaucrats.
There is a view held by some Democrats, notably some here in Minnestoopid, that those with military background should not be allowed to participate in the political process. Exceptions of course for the likes of the Murtha(censored) (censored traitor).
Is his name really “moron” or does he just sound like one?
you really know how to tug at a jarhead’s heart ;-)
I utterly detest Democrats. I really do.
“You flunked lunch at Harvard didn’t you?”
Mrs. RQSR laughed at that, and said “that’s the reason he won’t release his records.”
Amazing. Military Service is the most public service imaginable.
This Moron guy is detestable.
I wonder if Moran defended his slapping around a black child as a “public service”?
Well said! (applause)
The very worst background for an elective seat in government, imo, is in some government bureaucracy, then in some legal bureaucracy, and then in some foundation or social service agency.
The best preparation is real world experience in business, the military, research and development, and medical/legal personal practices.
Don’t be fooled. Their real view is that no one who is not a doctrinaire liberal leftist should participate in the political process.
Those tolerant liberals can tolerate anything...as long as it conforms to liberal orthodoxy.
Because these creeps keep getting reelected, they get to thinking that they are doing their constituents a favor by breathing.
some things never change. Here is a reply, from back when there were Democrats who aren’t copperheads, that bears repeating:
This is a GREAT quote/speech from John Glenn from many years ago..
Senator Metzenbaum to John Glenn: “How can you run for Senate when you’ve never held a real “job”?”
John Glenn: “I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program.
It wasn’t my checkbook; it was my Life on the line. It was not a 9 to 5 job where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank. I ask you to go with me...as I went the other day... to a Veterans Hospital and look at those men with their mangled bodies in the eye and tell them they didn’t hold a job. You go with me to the space program and go as I have gone to the widows and orphans of Ed White and Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their dad didn’t hold a job. You go with me on Memorial Day coming up, and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends than I’d like to remember and you watch those waving flags, and you stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell me that those people didn’t have a job. I’ll tell you, Howard Metzenbaum, you should be on your knees every day of your life thanking God that there were some men SOME MEN - who held a job. And they required a dedication to purpose and a love of country and a dedication to duty that was more important than life itself. And their self-sacrifice is what made this country possible. I HAVE HELD A JOB, HOWARD! What about you?”
Good response from a nice guy. However, Glenn is another example of the sort of politician whose military service gives them a sense of entitlement to his office regardless of what he does in office. Other examples: McCain, Murtha, Rangel....
If Jimmuh hadn’t done the typical dim stunt, moron’s crowd would still be in Canada “doin’ the manly thing - running”.
Thanks for posting the John Glenn remarks. That’s one thing he really got right.
I provide medical services to many Veterans in my practice.
They are mostly wonderful human beings. I am so grateful to them for what they have done for our country and our freedom that I provide them the very best care I am capable of. I see this as my patriotic duty. They have earned it.
If this dumbocrat a$$hole moran came into my practice I would really have a hard time complying with my Hippocratic oath.
Translation: Murray actually held a job in the real world:
Murray was raised in Oklahoma by a single mother. He first began work at the age of 14 to help pay his family's bills. He attended Oklahoma State University, which he paid for through a combination of working part time, student loans, and a stipend from the Veterans Administration owing to his father's service in World War II. While attending college, Murray enlisted in the ROTC program and received an ROTC scholarship.
God bless our veterans and service members who sacrifice SO MUCH (and especially the survivors of those who gave all) so morons like this can enjoy the freedom of speech to reveal this level of ignorance. Wow.
Hey Jimmy boy, in a week you’ll be out of work, so why don’t you just STFU and go out shopping for a good set of golf clubs or something. And another thing, DO NOT MOVE TO FLORIDA. Go infect Cuba or someplace similar that fits your ideology.
Is he sure his name isn’t pronounced moron?
