One of the local issues with greater national significance Peter Boyles is talking about this morning:

RV of 81-year-old Wheat Ridge man burned in possible revenge attack
http://www.kdvr.com/news/kdvr-rv-wallace-burned-txt,0,2915969.story

A little background: Robert Wallace shot at two illegals
that were trying to steal his trailer a few months back.
Robert Wallace said the illegals were trying to run him over. Now his RV has been torched. For the shooting Robert Wallace was charged with four counts of attempted murder. The illegals and what they did didn’t seem to be much of a concern to the prosecutor.

It looks like in September, a plea deal was cut for Robert Wallace.

It’s a shame that this honest, law-abiding elderly American citizen has to be put through something like this. Peter Boyles has been a supporter of his the whole time.

Oh, they also took away all of Robert Wallace’s guns. An elderly man defending his life is a threat, but illegals terrorizing citizens are not.

Precisely why I believe the deadly Senile endorsed Hick. They want more of this same kind of crap.Oh but there will be no
illegals once Hick is Gov. He will simply declare them to be legal-and only natural born citizens and patriots will be
persona non grats.

It’s horrible. The poor old guy has no guns to defend himself. They’ve declared him an open target.

Is he a write in or is he actually on the ballot?

On the ballot under the AC party. He’s within 3 points of Hickenlooper.

If you are not familiar with the meltdown we had with the gov race here in CO with the Repub candidates in the primary, it’s a pretty amazing story. I can find you some links if you are interested. It will be the story of the season if/when Tancredo wins.

Okay, this may be way more info than you are interested in reading or maybe you already know some of it, but here’s a post I posted a week or so ago to another person’s inquiry. I think it’s a pretty accurate time line of what happened with the gov race in CO:

{1. Why didn’t Tancredo run in the GOP primary?...}

This is what I understand from listening to Peter Boyles on 630 KHOW in the mornings and picking up tidbits here and there. I don’t know if it’s 100% accurate and I have no inside knowledge.

Tancredo was considering a possible run back in 09. He decided not to jump in because Josh Penry was getting in. Tancredo likes Penry and he was going to let the younger guy have his chance. For whatever reason, Josh Penry dropped out of the race. I’ve heard speculation that maybe he was asked to do this from party leadership to let Scott McInnis have his turn. I don’t know.

Then in November 2009, there was talk that Tancredo was getting in now that Penry was out. I don’t know what happened, but he didn’t. Tancredo goes on to endorse Scott McInnis—I don’t know if he did that in late 2009 or 2010.

Scott McInnis’ campaign goes south because of allegations of plagarism—Google Rolly Fischer and the Hassan Family Foundation.

Maes was the other guy in the primary. I had never heard of Maes before the run-up to the primary, but he kinda became the Tea Party guy against Scott McInnis the establishment guy.

At about the same time that Scott McInnis is having serious problems, Maes’ campaign starts to go south. He has some campaign finance reporting problems and a fine.

See:
Dan Maes tries to put his campaign fine behind him: Good luck with that
http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2010/07/dan_maes_tries_to_put_his_camp.php

Also, Maes doesn’t seem too forthcoming on the release his tax returns and when he does, it turns out he’s not quite the successful businessman he has portrayed himself to be.

See:
Dan Maes takes on Denver Post over tax returns, says paper doesn’t understand small business
http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2010/07/dan_maes_takes_on_denver_post_over_tax_returns_says_paper_doesnt_understand_small_business.php

Then a person, Freda Poundstone, comes to light. She’s was once a mayor of a suburb and is a local political activist. I hadn’t heard of her before all this but I guess in local politics she’s a fairly well-known name.

Once a Maes supporter, Poundstone says that Maes came to her (2009? 2010? I’m not sure) and hit her up for help with his mortgage. Maes says she only gave him $300 in cash and it was a campaign contribution, but the campaign contribution is not recorded. Poundstone says it was a lot more than $300, but has refused to say how much.

See:

Freda Poundstone gave Dan Maes money — now it’s payback time

and

Maes’ repayment of Poundstone draws more campaign finance scrutiny
http://coloradoindependent.com/61900/maes-repayment-of-poundstone-draws-more-campaign-finance-scrutiny

Then sometime in August I think, Maes and Poundstone are both at some gathering. Maes approaches Poundstone. I don’t believe he says anything to her or she can’t hear what he said, but stuffs an unsigned $300 check in her purse.

Maes’ tallying of campaign finances chaotic, former advisers say
http://www.denverpost.com/election2010/ci_16343622

There has also been scrutiny of Maes and his supposed under cover work with the Kansas Bureau of Investigations when he was a cop in Liberal, Kansas. He was fired from the police department in 1985.

Maes Compares His Embellished Undercover Stories To Serpico
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/09/dan-maes-compares-embellished-undercover-stories-to-serpico.php

Around the end of July, because of the apparent melt-down with both the primary candidates, Tancredo offers the two primary runners a deal. Whoever wins the primary will agree to drop out so a more electable candidate can be put on the ballot under the Republican banner or I (Tancredo) will run with the American Constitution Party.

Neither candidate takes his offer. Maes wins the primary. His campaign continues to go down the tubes, but he refuses to get out. He can’t raise any real money and his numbers decline. More and more Republicans, Independents, and dispirited Dems start to realize that they better get behind Tancredo and here we are today with Tancredo within the margin of error.

Hope that helps—sorry I couldn’t be more concise.

Thanks. It makes a big difference if he is on the ballot vs. a write in.

Yes. I hope everyone that wants to vote for him does it accurately—it is pretty easy to find him on there.

Voted for Tancredo this morning (early voting at my polling place, not mail-in). Boy did it feel good.

I almost regret doing it by mail sometimes. There is something about going in to do it where you really feel like you are “voting”.
