Some federal prosecutor is PO’d at Obama for this to come out now.

Now there's the real inside baseball. It's always amazing to see a DOJ held by the 'Rats prosecuting one of their own, in difficult circumstances. I have to wonder how that prosecutor has insulated himself from persecution from the Holder DOJ, because you know there will be retributions from this DOJ. I'm sure the DUmmies are explaining it by saying it's a Bush hold over.

Kabler has reported that the Division of Highways subpoenas focus on work in the Right-of-Way Division. That has drawn attention to Manchin’s former chief of staff Larry Puccio who is co-owner of a company that, according to the Gazette, has received over $800,000 in appraisal business with the state since 1996.

Meanwhile, there also remains an aura of secrecy around the case of Clark Diehl. Diehl, the owner of Wallpapers in Stock, of Charleston, pleaded guilty last January to fraud and tax charges in connection with work he performed at the capitol.

Diehl did remodeling work on the offices of Gov. Manchin, his then-chief of staff Larry Puccio and two other capitol offices. However, he waited until the work was done, and then created fake bids to comply with the bidding process for state projects.

Diehl’s sentencing was scheduled for Monday, but it hit a snag.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys held a closed-door hearing in federal court because of concerns by the prosecutor about information that “deals with a sensitive and ongoing investigation.”

Later Monday, a transcript of the private hearing was released, but 36 lines of the seven page transcript were redacted and Diehl’s sentencing was postponed until April. Presumably, the investigation into Diehl’s bidding violations continues, with Diehl’s cooperation.

Tuesday, the state party openly questioned whether the federal probe will snare Manchin: “Will West Virginia voters choose to elect someone who may be headed to prison for corruption?” State Republican Party Chairman Mike Stuart said Puccio’s reluctance to clear the air and answer questions sets a bad example and casts a shadow over Manchin, the man whose counsel Puccio kept. “This uncomfortable silence, hiding from Freedom of Information requests, these are an offense to any of us who love the First Amendment and the Constitution,” said. “The voters deserve to know exactly what is happening before they cast their votes for the U.S. Senate.”

FOIA Requests? This should be good. Looks like the Dems picked a real winner with Larry Puccio. He may need Manchin to remain in the Governor's office in order to avoid jail.

State polls have been less accurate than nation wide polls as long as I can remember.

I can see why Politico thinks this is a “disturbing turn of events”.

“Will West Virginia voters choose to elect someone who may be headed to prison for corruption?”

As WVa elected and re-elected a corrupt former Klan leader, I'm not sure if that's the right question to ask... but hey! Let's give it a shot!! ;-)

Personally, I think it would be best at this late date to let the news play out on its own and let others carry the bad news. The less Raese says about it, the better...at least until more substantial evidence is presented.

If Raese is to wait for the MSM to report this, that may not happen until 11/3. His campaign should at least make mention of the subpoena to alert voters.

We will win WV long before we win PA. Yet it seems many seem to think otherwise. Reality is WV is much more Red and PA is much more Blue and both moving in those color direction more by the day. I think we will take WV fairly easily. But the DEM sole shocker next week will be them holding on to PA. Just remember, PA in 08 we were told right up until election day was way to close to call. In the end Obama wins it by +11...Not even close.

The polls before the 2008 election, Obama was up an RCP average of 7 in Pa. Toomey right now is up an RCP average above the MOE and Rass has him beyond that. Only on poll shows Sleestak winning. Toomey will win by 2-4%, over by 9pm as Dick Morris would say. Most if not all the experts think this a safe bet, picking Toomey. The Dems in Pa are going to take a beating with what I heard was 3-5 House seat flipping on the lowside. Sleestak had a bit of a comeback a week ago with his ad blitz but has faded once again and has never led. He blew his wad and the National Democrat party is pulling the big money out this week to focus on winnable races. So watch watch what the enemy is doing to tell you what is really going on. So let's not get needlessly negative without any reason to be, besides a "feeling".

I spoke with John about this about six weeks ago. He told me that he can't be the one that brings this issue up.....it has to come from someone else. It looks like someone else has done it.

One of the quotes from Manchin's recent commercials may come back to haunt him: "I only want what's best for West Virginia". Of course this is spoken in his "Can't we all get along?" tone (right after he has just ripped into John Raese with a class envy gripe about his home in Palm Beach, etc).

Indeed. Seems as if the Gazette is doing a pretty good job.
