W.Va. probe worries Dems (Manchin)
Politico ^

Posted on 10/26/2010 8:39:14 PM PDT by Chet 99

A federal investigation into West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin’s administration has taken a disturbing turn for his Democratic supporters: agents reportedly have subpoenaed the director of the state Aviation Division, along with flight logs and records for official government aircraft.

The news comes just after federal prosecutors privately asked a judge to delay the sentencing of a contractor who got a no-bid contract to redecorate Manchin’s office. And the developments are set against an ongoing government probe reportedly involving state Democratic Party chairman Larry Puccio, Manchin’s former chief of staff.

It’s highly unlikely the federal investigation will be resolved before Election Day, and the exact details of the probe, which apparently stem from state contracts, are still unclear. But the headlines about possible wrongdoing in the governor’s office – and rumors swirling around his former top aide – threaten to hamstring Manchin in his tight Senate race with millionaire businessman John Raese, with the Democrats’ control of the Senate at stake.

Wow, I have been waiting for these little October surprises to pop up but didn’t expect it would be Dims in trouble.
Pleasant surprise, especially since Raese needs all the help he can get.

I agree, but I’d sure like to see this stuff happen to worse rats than Manchin......like Bawney or Cheesey Schemer or Dingy Harry.

I hope Raese does make hay out of this. Manchin attacked Raese for accepting government contracts, tarring him a hypocrite for criticizing government spending while profiting personally from it.

Some federal prosecutor is PO’d at Obama for this to come out now. Probably thumbing his nose at Holder since Holder dare not interfere with this investigation after the New Black Panther Party fiasco.

We will win WV long before we win PA. Yet it seems many seem to think otherwise. Reality is WV is much more Red and PA is much more Blue and both moving in those color direction more by the day. I think we will take WV fairly easily. But the DEM sole shocker next week will be them holding on to PA. Just remember, PA in 08 we were told right up until election day was way to close to call. In the end Obama wins it by +11...Not even close.

Personally, I think it would be best at this late date to let the news play out on its own and let others carry the bad news. The less Raese says about it, the better...at least until more substantial evidence is presented.

Oh, JMHO.

100% correct. WVA is coal country and Obama and Democrats hate coal. Expect that state to become full time red shortly.

Anyone who thought PA was going to turn in ‘08 didn’t know what they were talking about. If Bush couldn’t win it in’04 no way in hell was McCain going to in ‘08.

Toomey will win the same way Santorum won in ‘04. In wave elections PA can become a swing state with the right candidate.

People have doubted WV because unlike PA which had two Republican Senators until recently in Santorum and Specter, WV remains democratic statewide with just a vote for Republicans in Presidential elections. PA is more liberal leaning then WV but sometimes voting patterns just don’t mirror idealogy. Now that BYrd has died and Obama has done what he has WV seems finally willing to vote Republican outside of the W.H.

I am not surprised. I cheered Shelly declining to run because she was more liberal then I wanted from that state. Figured if it was a conservative year the more conservative challenger just might get swept ahead in a state like this one. My only complaint is why the GOP was too dense to see the possibility. Fight like Hell for a moderate/liberal in California but never once crossed their minds WV could go Rep this cycle? Or Wisconsin? Apparently not, or they thought it impossible once the “establishment” figures of choice chose not to run.

Just remember, PA in 08 we were told right up until election day was way to close to call.

I never saw a poll that showed PA neck in neck in '08. I remember it always leaning Obama. But I remember Ohio being a toss-up state for 0. And even OH went to Obama.

“Toomey will win the same way Santorum won in ‘04. In wave elections PA can become a swing state with the right candidate.”

Santorum lost in ‘06 because in ‘04 he and Dubya campaigned for Specter against Toomey causing causing him to lose by about 20K votes. The Pubbies in PA remembered that and cast their vote for Pro-Life Bob Casey Jr. who campaigned as a conservative but turned out to be a lib wrapped in DINO garb.

I do think Toomey will win by 4 - 5 points after all the vote fraud. Even the Philly Dem machine isn’t stupid enough to try and explain away a 250% voter turnout.
