Judge denies motion to extend ballot deadline

CHICAGO (WLS) - A Chicago federal judge is rejecting the Illinois Republican Party effort to give overseas military members more time to mail back their absentee ballots.

Several Illinois counties failed to mail absentee ballots to overseas military members from Illinois by a state mandated Sept. 18 deadline.

The U.S. Justice Department went to court and last Friday announced it had reached an agreement with Illinois officials to rectify the situation.

The agreement only affects six downstate counties and it means their overseas voters get an extra two to three days to return their ballots and still have them counted.

Nice, deny the military cause some small town county officials decided it was not cost effective to send out the ballots if they had to be revised & then resent.

It was all about money & budget! I've been following this story & one couty official from downstate said they were dealing with a candidate whose position on the ballot was being challenged & they might have to add him or remove the candidate & that would not be "cost efficient" to his county to mail the ballots overseas and then have to mail a revised ballot again!! Hmmmmmm....

I thought it was a federally (not state) mandated deadline to have them out by 9/18 or whatever the date was. It seems to me there should be huge fines for counties/municipalities that do not get their ballots out on time. Possibly they are going to have to back off primaries in some places to earlier dates or set some better deadlines in the state regulations so that that all pending issues of which candidates should be on the ballots have been resolved in plenty of time for the ballots to be locked in. (A person close to me works at an election commission office in central IL, suggested the deadlines were too tight with the court challenges pending.)

But the court ruled to allow illegals to vote? Really? I am so glad America is waking up, these judges need to be removed and replaced with people who are looking out for us, instead of the “progessive agenda. I, personally, have had it with them, all of them!

OH yes, illegals can vote, it’s just our military that can’t, because of budget constraints in some counties in Illinois!!!!!! Where is the fine for these county administrators who made these decisions?????

I almost didn’t get to your “/sarc” soon enough.

Fortunately, when the gun went off, it wasn’t pointed at my monitor, however, the neighbors cat picked the wrong day to visit.

Were the officials making that decision Democrats or Republicans? I don’t know but I can guess.

If federal law mandates that absentee ballots need to be sent by 9/18, or whatever date, any issue that will go on the ballot should, by law, be rectified by that date. Translation: the due date for all positions and initiatives for the people to decide on must be the date, or the day before, the ballots are to go out. If you file to run for an office the day after this, too bad, try again next election.

More than one county involved. If all Democrats than you have a pattern not isolated incidents. Same arguments that have been used to prove discrimination for years can be applied if there is a pattern to the discrimination against the military voters.

But of course there’s NO problem keeping voting locations open later in minority precincts in St. Louis.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Board of Elections hand-delivers ballots to inmates in Cook County Jail. The board doesn’t even wait for the inmates to apply — it brings the applications with the ballots! More than 2,600 inmates have cast ballots — strikingly similar to the 2,600 soldiers who will likely not receive a ballot for Tuesday’s election.

I just hope no disfranchised minority or diverse progressive type democrat that has been denied his or her civil rights, or vote, does not resort to intimidation, violence or use extreme prejudice in retaliation.

I am so disgusted with this stuff. The most deserving of us generally get the shaft, while the least deserving get anything they want. I’m also sick of our president trying to pit everyone against each other. This must end! I have knots in my stomach just waiting for Nov. 2.
