Just an aside, the tone of the husband's remarks makes me think that he had an idea that wifey was fooling around, but the under age think just blew him away.

I knew a guy who knocked up a 16 year old when he was 14, married her, and they are still married 30 years later as far as I know. He turned out to be a good dad.

And personally I would also prefer a philandering spouse to one who recklessly spent me into bankruptcy. Others may possibly disagree.
The age of consent is 14 in Canada, 13 in Spain, 13 for men and 12 for women in the Bible, and 12 across the board in Chile. The puritanical consent laws we have in the USA make for lots of titillating headlines, but in my opinion have nothing at all to do with real crime prevention.
