The latest absentee ballot statistics released this afternoon by the state of Pennsylvania show a strong Republican tilt in the Keystone State, a bad sign for Democratic candidates up and down the ticket.
According to the secretary of state’s office, 53,226 absentee ballots have been returned by registered Republicans in Pennsylvania compared with 37,631 by registered Democrats.

Having been stationed in the Pittsburgh area for a number of years, the southwest part of PA has a number of blue dog voters. I was friends with a number of folks there in Scott Township that were registered D’s that voted R. While most of them do vote solid D for the down ticket races to include the house races, they will vote R for Senate, Gov and POTUS.. But on the flip side, lots of Specter RINO’s floating around that might go the other way. It’s a very fickle state!!! My gut tells me that that this might be one of those R years in PA, but you can’t project this out to 2012 as they can flip in a nano second!!!
If I recall correctly, PA always keeps its governor for two terms and always changes parties for the next (or it has for as long as I can remember). Republican time...

During 2006, the two parties returned exactly 82 percent of ballots. During 2008, Democrats returned 88 percent of absentee ballots, compared to 89 percent returned by Republicans. Republicans requested over 8,600 more ballots than Democrats in 2006, compared to only 3,400 more in 2008.
In the 2010 Pennsylvania primary, Republicans requested nearly 5,000 fewer ballots than Democrats, while both parties returned exactly 68 percent of ballots.
To date, Republicans have requested 11K more ballots than D in this cycle and have returned 12K more than the RATS. This is quadruple 2008 levels. The wave is building.

Heck, she was at a train station this evening (witnessed it myself) - with, of all people, the Dem governor candidate Onorato. That's pretty smallball for a Dem statewide candidate to be playing this late in the race. Something very intesting is happening here - namely, a huge number of factors are aligning to where a fresh candidate, Dee Adcock, can counter a massive discrepancy in funds enough to panic Schwartz into the streets, something she has been loathe to do for some time now.

The Democrats have a registration edge in Pennsylvania of around 1.2 million voters.
